Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes won’t raise their kids in gender-specific roles.

Gosling, 42, has starred in numerous blockbuster films, including The Notebook, La la Land, and Blade Runner 2049.

While Mendes, 48, has appeared in movies such as Ghost Rider, Hitch and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The pair, who got together in 2011, are one of the most private couples in Hollywood and rarely divulge much about their relationship.

However, they have opened up about being parents to their two daughters, Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6.

In an interview with Forbes, Mendes reveals that she and her partner want their kids to realise that ‘they are all partners’ and no one should expect anything from a person because of their gender.

She explains: “I’m not an amazing cook – I leave that to Ryan.

“Hopefully it’s showing my girls that there are no gender-specific roles that one must take on and that we are partners in this and that we’re all partners in this, not just Ryan and I, but our children as well.

“It’s a team effort every day, so if they see him and I switching off doing certain things that again aren’t specific to stereotypical gender things, I think that just creates balance and harmony.”

This isn’t the first time the actress has opened up about being a parent.

In a chat with USA Today, Mendes says that when it comes to her children, she wants them to see her only as a ‘mum’, and not a celebrity.

“What I try to empathise is that I don’t let them see me put attention to how I dress,” she explains.

“They’ve never seen me get ready for something; they’ve never seen me at work, which is fine, for whoever wants to do it that way, but the way I keep it normal is by not letting them see me in these situations.

“I’m just mum. And I’m more than happy to just be mum.”

As Mendes has been focusing on being a parent, many of her fans have presumed that she’s quit acting – which is something she’s hit back at.

Taking to Instagram, the actress says she’d not been ‘excited’ by the kinds of roles that have been on offer to her.

“I never quit acting,” she writes.

“I wanted to be home with my babies and, fortunately, my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting would.

“Also, I was not excited about the stereotypical roles being offered to me at the time. Especially after working on the film Lost River – that was a dream project. That’s a tough act to follow.

“What’s the point of this post? To shift that narrative. I never quit.”
