Pirates Of The Caribbean star has died aged 77.

Sergio Calderón is best recognised for playing Captain Eduardo Villanueva of the Adriatic Sea in the popular Disney franchise.

Other notable film roles include appearing in Men In Black, Little Fockers and Sergio Leone’s 1971 thriller Duck, You Sucker.

Sadly, Calderón’s family has revealed that he has passed away.

A family spokesperson has announced that Calderón died on May 31 in a Los Angeles hospital.

He reportedly died from natural causes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Calderón is survived by his wife, Karen Dakin; children Patrick Calderón-Dakin and Johanna Calderón-Dakin son-in-law Raaj; and grandchildren Krishnaavi, Emiliano and Victoria.

Fans of the actor have taken to social media to pay tribute to Calderón.

One fan pens: “I’m so sad Sergio Calderón has passed. I just read that wonderful article about him in the LA Times too. I always think of him as El Cajon the river pirate from The A-Team.”

“Sergio Calderon another fine talent and his great spirit and legacy lives,” someone else adds.

“Rest in Peace, Sergio,” comments another.

Calderón was born in 1945 in a tropical village in Mexico, but he moved to Mexico City when he was 10 years old.

He then began studying at the Instituto Andrés Soler of the Asociación Nacional de Actores.

The A-Team actor joked in an interview with The Los Angeles Times – which was published shortly before his death – that he wanted to be an actor because people told him he wasn’t attractive enough to be one.

I thought I was handsome,” he reveals. “So I stubbornly decided I wanted to become an actor.”

Before finding a career in acting, he worked as a teacher and didn’t get his first credit until the 1971 film The Bridge In The Jungle.

Calderón moved to Los Angeles nine years later after receiving his Screen Actors Guild card for his role in the comedy, The In-Laws.

He has countless film credits across his 53-year acting career, including so films on his résumé were The Revengers, The Children of SánchezLe Chèvre, Old Gringo, The Missing, The Ruins and most recently The Resort.

Calderón also made an appearance on the final season of the well-received FX series Better Things last year.

In his interview with The Los Angeles Times, Calderón admitted that he ‘loves’ playing villainous characters.

He explains: “I love to play those types of characters, because people really hate me.

“They tell me in the streets how much they hate me. But to me, that is my success. Because that means I was able to convince people with what I performed.”
