Tom Hanks’ Daughter Speaks Out On Childhood She Claims Was Filled With Disturbing ‘Violence’
Tom Hanks’ daughter has revealed the disturbing nature of her childhood, which she claims was filled with ‘violence.’
Elizabeth Anne Hanks, who goes by E. A is the daughter of Tom Hanks’ first marriage to Susan Dillingham, who went by the stage name Samantha Lewes.
The couple met as theatre students at Sacramento State University in the mid-’70s. They had two children, E. A. and her older brother Colin.
The now 42-year-old daughter of the A-lister is opening up about her traumatic childhood in her new book ‘The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road.’

The first five years of E.A.’s life was spent in Los Angeles with her mom and her dad until they divorced in 1987.
Susan was given primary custody of both children, and the kids had designated weekend and summer visits with Hanks.
Until one day, E.A.’s mom decided to leave Los Angeles behind without notice and took the children to Sacramento.
The 42-year-old told People: “My dad came to pick us up from school, and we’re not there.
“And it turns out we haven’t been there for two weeks, and he has to track us down.”

E.A states that although her mom was never diagnosed, she believes Susan may have had bipolar disorder with suffering from episodes of extreme paranoia and delusion.
Susan died in 2002 from lung cancer at age 49. For E.A., this meant she was left with many unanswered questions about her mother.
In her new Memoir, she explores the mysteries left behind of her mother. It tells the story of her six-month road trip on Interstate 10, from L.A. to Palatka, Florida, where her mom’s family had once lived.
In an excerpt, she shares a closer look into her turbulent childhood with her complicated mother.
The actor’s daughter writes: “My only memories of my parents in the same place at the same time are Colin’s high school graduation, then my high school graduation. I have one picture of me standing between my parents.
She also reveals: “I have very few memories of the early years in Los Angeles.”

E.A shares that her life from the age of five to 14 was ‘filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love.’
Describing her home life, she adds: “I was a Sacramento girl. I lived in a white house with columns, a backyard with a pool, and a bedroom with pictures of horses plastered on every wall.
“As the years went on, the backyard became so full of dog s— that you couldn’t walk around it, the house stank of smoke.
“The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not, and my mother spent more and more time in her big four-poster bed, poring over the Bible.”

E.A goes on to recall one night that was partially traumatic as her mother’s emotional violence became physical violence.’
In the aftermath, she moved to Los Angeles during the middle of the seventh grade.
The 42-year-old writes: “My custody arrangement basically switched — now I lived in L.A. and visited Sacramento on the weekends and in the summer.
“When I was 14, my mother and I drove across America along Interstate 10 to Florida, in a Winnebago that lumbered along the asphalt with a rolling gait that felt nautical.”
She adds that during her senior year of high school, Susan called to say she was dying.
