The rumor mill ignited with whispers of a budding romance between Hollywood icon Depp and the star of Netflix’s Wednesday, Ortega.
The murmurs gained traction when celebrity gossip page Deuxmoi suggested that the two had been seen together.
And Depp and Ortega have now both publicly responded to the claims about their relationship.
Depp’s turbulent dating history
Johnny Depp continues to attract public attention, both for his acclaimed acting career and his high-profile personal life.
Recent reports suggest Depp may be dating someone new, reigniting interest in his romantic history.
One of his most significant relationships was with French singer, model, and actress Vanessa Paradis.
The pair were together from 1998 until 2012 and share two children, Lily-Rose and Jack.
Despite their separation, they have reportedly remained on good terms, and their relationship was notably kept out of the spotlight during their years together.
Depp’s later relationship with actress Amber Heard became the subject of intense media scrutiny and legal disputes.
The two met while filming The Rum Diary in 2009 and married in 2015.
Their marriage ended the following year in a highly publicized divorce.
In 2022, Depp won a defamation case against Heard related to a 2018 Washington Post op-ed.
More recently, Depp has been linked to Yulia Vlasova, a Russian model and beautician based in Prague.
The two were reportedly introduced at the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2021.
While neither has publicly confirmed a relationship, social media activity has fueled speculation about a possible romance.
Their connection has drawn attention online, partly because some fans have noted Vlasova’s resemblance to Heard.
The pair’s age difference has also sparked discussion, with Depp being considerably older than Vlasova, who is believed to be in her late twenties.
How did the rumours begin?
The claims about the relationship between Depp and Ortega were originally shared on celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi.
They posted an anonymous tip that the pair were spotted on a date.
Deuxmoi also state on their Instagram account that some statements made on this account have not been independently confirmed.’
The account published a rumour that the pair were dating in late August 2023.
What has Ortega said?
In an interview with BuzzFeed while promoting her film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Ortega Spoke out on the situation when asked what the craziest rumour she had heard about herself was.
“Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to ‘leave us alone,'” the actress replied.
“It’s so insane to me like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that,” she added.
“Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious.”
“I was on set with (co-star) Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he just said ‘Oh so you and Johnny,’ and I laughed because — I don’t know that person.”
And fans seem to love her response, with one user saying: “Amazing, I love this for her.”
They especially loved her comment saying ‘I don’t know that person,’ with one person replying “I’m dead hahaha.”
Another said: “I love everything about this,” while another said: “She definitely has some sharp edges, which is only a good thing for a woman in that industry.”
In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega said she plans to avoid sharing any romantic relationships publicly, with one reason for this being that it will distract from her work.
“I don’t plan on speaking about my love life publicly, because that’s mine,” she says.
“When you know too much about someone’s personal life, then you watch films, and you can only see them, the celebrity version of them. There’s nothing worse.”

A representative for Depp also dismissed the dating rumours, as well as the claim that he might have a role opposite Ortega in Beetlejuice 2.
A statement from Depp’s representative to NME read: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever.
“He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be.
“He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Guess that has put the rumours to bed then.
