Over $23,000 worth of cheese has reportedly been ‘stolen by a gang’ in a huge heist in the Netherlands.

According to reports, the Dutch group ‘stole a bus full of more than 3,500 pounds of the product’ from the Torenpolderkaas dairy farm in Noord Brabant.

Theo Dekker, chairman of the Dutch Association of Farm Dairy Preparers, has issued a warning to other farmers in the country following the incident.

He told local broadcaster Omroep Brabant: “We are a bit afraid of this. They don’t shy away from entering a cheese farm with brute force. In no time they fill their bus and leave.

“It is of course never pleasant to have burglars in your yard. We know all too well how much craft is involved in the cheeses.”

Explaining how it would have been carried out, he added: “This is not just a simple theft, it’s organised crime.

“These gangs are not afraid to use violence. They’ll load up and off they go. The thieves usually visit the farm shop a couple of days before to get the lay of the land so they know exactly what to take.

“We have had reports of cheeses ending up in Russia where no Dutch dairy can be bought because of the economic sanctions.”

After this, the chairman claimed that if ‘one piece of the cheese is cut off,’ then it can no longer be found out where it came from.

He also urged dairy farmers in the area to set up CCTV cameras to make sure they catch any other potential thieves.
