Cole Sprouse and his girlfriend Ani Fournier have been accused of dressing up as Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The Riverdale actor and his model girlfriend were attending the 1920s-themed birthday party of Victoria’s Secret star Barbara Palvin, according to Meaww.

The criticism started when an image of the Friends star, 30, and his girlfriend, 22, was uploaded on social media.

The snap of the couple was shared on actress and writer Elysée Sanvillé’s Instagram profile, alongside other images.

“Miss Getta Dunn gotta way with murder,” the post was captioned.

In the photo in question, Sprouse wears a white T-shirt, black trousers, a hat and braces.

While his girlfriend has been compared to Aquaman actress Heard as she wears her hair in a similar style as well as red lipstick, reports Koimoi.

Despite the couple’s striking resemblance to the two Hollywood stars, it’s possible they had no idea that they’d ended up creating a likeness.

However, many people were quick to criticise them after the image was shared on social media.

However, other Twitter users have taken to the social media platform and defended Sprouse and Fournier.

One wrote: “Cole Sprouse and his girlfriend didn’t dress up like Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.

“It was a birthday party and it was its theme, the roaring 20s! Everyone else at the party also dressed up the same way!”

A second agreed, commenting: “This doesn’t look like them at all, I don’t know how people thought that.”

“The way everyone saw that Cole Sprouse’s costume included being musty and dirty and immediately thought it was Johnny Depp,” another remarked.

A fourth said: “Once and for all, Cole Sprouse and his girlfriend were NOT dressed as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

“They were at Barbara Palvin’s birthday party whose theme was the roaring 20s.”

At the time of writing, Sprouse and Fournier have yet to address the criticism regarding the photo.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made headlines earlier this year when the former couple had a televised defamation lawsuit, which was eventually won by the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

The Pineapple Express actress and the Edward Scissorhands actor started dating in 2012 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary.

They then got married during a private ceremony in 2015. However, the marriage did not last long and Heard filed for divorce in 2016.

The highly-publicised case between Depp and Heard started in April 2022 and concluded at the start of June 2022.

Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million after she made domestic violence claims in a 2018 article in The Washington Post, and she issued a counterclaim for $100m.

The article did not mention Depp by name, but his lawyers argued it falsely implied he abused her while they were together.

Depp won his defamation lawsuit after the jury found that what Heard wrote in her op-ed piece for The Washington Post was defamatory, and awarded Depp $15 million in damages.

The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages as they found that in her countersuit, she did not prove all elements of defamation.
