Marty and Jess Ansen, from Australia, have spent a year and a half of their well-deserved retirement as passengers on the Coral Princess cruise ship.
The duo decided to pack up their belongings and head out on their voyage as a stance to the costs of retirement homes.
The couple – who have a kind of ‘onboard celebrity‘ status – have opened up about their adventurous lifestyle in an interview with A Current Affair, leaving viewers amazed.
They’ve humorously quipped that they’re the ones extending a welcome to the ship’s captains, rather than the other way around.
Even passengers embarking on shorter cruises now specifically seek out the opportunity to meet this loved-up couple.
They’ve grown so accustomed to life at sea that they humorously admit to being unsure of how to make a bed or prepare a meal anymore.
Marty told A Current Affair: “Now, we don’t have to wash up anymore or make the bed.
“We don’t know how to make a because we haven’t done it for so long, so now we have to stay on board just to stay alive.”
He added: “It’s a wonderful life.”
The retired couple has been enjoying cruises for many years, but they made the decision to go on full-time voyages following the Covid pandemic.

Feeling as though they missed out on several years of enjoyment during the strict Australian lockdowns, they formulated a plan to spend their days on an extended holiday.
Marty recalled: “Eventually I said to my agent, ‘Look, whatever comes, book it’, and that’s how it got to be such a long cruise.”
They assert that their current lifestyle is more cost-effective than moving into a retirement facility.
A typical day for the couple now involves a few games of ping pong and enjoying beers on their private balcony.
Marty is also making ‘lifelong friends’ while Jess spends her days hula dancing.
