Deborah James has broken down over ‘hard conversations’ she’s had with her two kids about her death.

The podcast host, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016, recently opened up to BBC Breakfast about her children, Hugo 14, and Elouise, 12, growing up without her.

She said: “I have a really loving family who I adore and couldn’t… They’re just incredible.

“And all I knew I wanted was to come here and be able to relax, knowing that everything was okay.

“We’ve had some really, really hard conversations in the last week. You think, gosh, how can anybody have those conversations and then you just find yourself in the middle of them.”

James continued: “I know because I trust my husband – he’s just the most wonderful man and so is my family and I know that my kids are going to be more than looked after and surrounded by love.

“You always want to know as a mother, are your kids going to be okay?

“And my kids are going to be fine, but it doesn’t mean I’m not going to miss every chance that I could have had with them.”

Earlier this week, the BBC star was left shocked when her fundraiser, Bowel Babe Fund, accumulated over £2million in donations within just two days.

At the time, James said: “Thank you for your generous donations.

“Thank you for helping me build a future where we can [show] cancer who is boss.

“We have brilliant, enthusiastic talent in this country – let’s support them to do the best job they can to give more people more time living.”
