Jada Pinkett Smith has admitted she had an affair with a very unexpected celebrity.

The Red Table Talk host, 52, married Will Smith in 1997 and their relationship has been subject to much media scrutiny.

But much of the criticism the pair have faced over the years pales in comparison to what surfaced after Pinkett Smith confessed to cheating on her Oscar-winning husband by having an affair with someone completely unexpected.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith first met in 1994, when the latter auditioned to star opposite Smith in The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. She missed out on the role because she was ‘too short’ to play Will’s girlfriend, as per People.

At the time, Smith was married to Sheree Zampino, but he soon started developing feelings for The Matrix star and, in a 2018 episode of Red Table Talk, he confessed: “I had a realisation I wasn’t with the person I was supposed to be with.”

Smith revealed that he boldly called Pinkett Smith and asked if she was seeing anyone. She said she wasn’t.

“Cool, you’re seeing me now,” he replied.

They married in 1997 and later welcomed two children, Jaden (born 1998) and Willow (born 2000).

The family have always faced their fair share of media scrutiny – most infamously following the 2022 Oscars, when Smith slapped Chris Rock live on stage.

The comedian was hosting the awards show when he made a joke aimed at Pinkett Smith and her public battle with alopecia – a condition that occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss.

Alopecia can be brought on by a number of things such as heredity, stress, hormonal changes and medical conditions, according to Mayo Clinic.

While Pinkett Smith has not been able to find the exact cause of her alopecia, she believes it was brought on by stress, as per CNN.

During Rock’s monologue, he said: “Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2,” which prompted Smith to walk on stage and slap the comedian.

When he returned to his seat, he yelled: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

Awkwardly, the night would end with Smith winning the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard – however, the infamous slap would overshadow what should’ve been the crowning moment in his career.

Smith was banned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 10 years following the incident. The organisation stated that the awards had been ‘overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage’, as per the BBC.

However, many would argue that the couple went through an even more controversial scandal just a few years prior.

From 2018 to 2022, Pinkett Smith hosted a talk show on Facebook called Red Table Talk – alongside her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris and her daughter Willow.

The three of them discussed a range of topics and interviewed different guests – with Smith often featured on the show.

But one 2020 episode would capture the attention of the world.

The couple sat down for an intimate conversation, where the actress revealed that she had cheated on her husband.

Reports of an affair came to light after Jaden Smith’s friend, August Alsina, who is an R&B singer, alleged in an interview that he had been romantically involved with and ‘gave years of his life’ to Pinkett Smith – and claimed that Smith had given them his blessing, as per Variety.

Pinkett Smith explained: “It all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.

“The outpouring for him from our family was initially about his health.

“We found all those different resources to help pull him through and from there you and I were going through a very difficult time.”

She revealed that the couple were pretty much broken up at the time and had been for a ‘period of time’.

Smith then asked his wife what happened, to which she replied that she and Alsina were in an ‘entanglement’.

They both used the opportunity to clear up the singer’s claim that he had Smith’s permission to be involved with his wife.

She explained: “One of the things I want to clear up that was kind of swirling in the press was you giving permission, which the only person who can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself.

“But what August was actually trying to communicate – because I could actually see how he would perceive it as permission because we were separated amicably – I think he also wanted to make it clear that he’s not a homewrecker, which he’s not.”

The actress added that she ended the affair and, not long after, she and Smith reconciled.

“I would definitely say that we tried everything we could to get away from each other, only to realise that that wasn’t possible,” she added.

Last year, however, in a bombshell interview, Pinkett Smith announced that she and Smith have actually been separated and living ‘‘completely different’ lives since 2016.

This understandably sparked a lot of confusion, so when Pinkett Smith was asked to be ‘100 per cent clear’ about her relationship with her husband in an interview in the days following her admission, she shared that the pair were ‘working very hard to bring [their] relationship back together… back to a life partnership’, per NBC.
