Dr. Dre has broken his silence on Eminem ‘taking the knee’ during their Super Bowl halftime show.

The hip-hop legend, who performed alongside Marshall Mathers, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige, and 50 Cent, said the group had to ‘change’ a ‘few things’ before taking to the stage at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Sunday night. However, he’s insisted there was ‘no problem’ with the gesture.

He told TMZ: “There were a few things that we had to change but it was like really minor things.

“Em taking the knee, that was him doing that on his own and there was no problem with that.”

During Eminem’s song ‘Lose Yourself,’ the 49-year-old crouched down and held his head in his hand in apparent tribute to Colin Kaepernick. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback went viral in 2016 when he took the knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

The gesture during Sunday night’s show was a huge talking point and the NFL later spoke out and insisted they did not attempt to stop the rapper from doing it.

“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” said league spokesman Brian McCarthy.

Elsewhere in his interview with TMZ, Dr. Dre, real name Andre Young, revealed that the NFL did instruct them to remove some material referencing Los Angeles gangs as they ‘had a problem with that’.

He added: “They had a problem with that so we had to take that out – no big deal, we get it.

“All in all, everybody came in, we were professional, everybody was on time and everybody really felt the magnitude of what this thing was and what we were going to be able to accomplish and it was a fantastic experience.”
