Emily Ratajkowski has announced the birth of her baby, who she has decided to raise gender-neutral.
The model and her husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard, confirmed the news in an Instagram post and revealed their name.
Ratajkowski wrote: “Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earthside. Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful, and love-filled morning of my life.”
Celebrity pals of the showbiz couple rushed to congratulate them, with Bella Hadid writing: “Congratulations sweet family.”
Halsey commented: “CONGRATULATIONS MAMA!!!”
Ratajkowski revealed she was pregnant with her first child in the October issue of Vogue magazine.
Alongside the announcement, the Gone Girl actress wrote an essay explaining why she and her husband had made the decision to raise their child gender-neutral.
It read: “When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?’”
“We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then.
“Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who – rather than what – is growing inside my belly.”
She added: “I don’t like that we force gender-based preconceptions onto people, let alone babies.”
