Snowfall is a six-season drama all about the crack epidemic in Los Angeles in the 1980s.

Its official synopsis reads: “During the budding drug epidemic in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, a crime family decides to make money selling cocaine. Meanwhile, a CIA operative also gets involved.”

The series consists of a whopping 60 episodes, meaning it’s the perfect binge-watching project to see you through until the end of winter.

The show stars Damson Idris in the leading role as young drug dealer Franklin Saint, for which he’s gained a lot of praise.

It began airing in 2017 and wrapped up last year, so every single episode is available for you to stream right now on BBC iPlayer or Disney+.

People are absolutely loving the series, with one fan writing: “As a huge fan and perennial watcher of mob/gang TV series, I had thought that the genre, following The Wire, The Sopranos, BB/BCS, Peaky, Narcos, Boardwalk, Godfather of Harlem, Gangs of London and others, could no longer tell us something that we didn’t already know, nor provide an original take that rises to the heights of such masterpieces of television.

“But I was wrong. Snowfall matches, if not exceeds the very best of these, in terms of narrative power, acting quality, historical/political perspective, empathy and passion.”

Another agrees: “Oh my gawwwddd!!! This show is by far the absolute best series I’ve ever watched. And I’ve watched a LOT of TV! Unc/Jerome deserves awards as do Franklin and Leon.

“This show brought up so many emotions – made me laugh hysterically, made me sad, angry, anxious, biting my nails, content, blissful, resentful, incredulous, shocked, amazed, in awe etc. Legit, every emotion possible I experienced at some point in this series.”

And it’s not just fans enjoying the viewing experience – critics are also keen.

Jake Nevins in The Guardian praises: “A wonderful cast to a strong visual through-line, a gifted creator in John Singleton, and a prolific motivating force: the origin story of crack-cocaine in South Central LA, the place Singleton so richly examined in his Oscar-nominated debut feature Boyz n the Hood.”
