Family Guy fans are saying a ‘cruel’ John Goodman joke went too far.

Although the show has a long-standing reputation for pushing boundaries and poking fun at public figures, this particular gag has left some viewers feeling that the writers may have crossed a line.

The joke is featured in season 4, episode 19, titled ‘Brian Sings and Swings,’ and it originally aired in 2006.

Though it’s not a new clip, it recently gained renewed attention after being shared on social media.

Since then, the clip has amassed over 3.6 million views on X (formerly Twitter), drawing mixed reactions from fans.

Fans have taken to social media to express their discomfort over the scene.

One person writes: “I love dark humor, but Jesus Christ,” while another simply asks: “Why are they being mean to John Goodman?”

Others are questioning the intent behind targeting Goodman so aggressively, with one commenter stating: “This is so mean-spirited and unfunny wtf. What did they have against John Goodman?”

“This is legit one of the darkest cutaways,” another agrees.

While some have defended the joke as classic Family Guy shock humor, others have admitted they felt uneasy laughing.

A few viewers commented that they laughed despite feeling it was wrong to do so, joking that they hated themselves for finding it funny.

The scene depicts a cutaway gag featuring a caricatured version of Goodman voraciously devouring a massive spread of mashed potatoes, pies, turkey, and gravy.

His animated family watches on in desperation, appearing thin and malnourished.

In the scene, Goodman’s fictional son pleads: “I told you, when I am finished, you can have what is left.”

The son replies: “There won’t be any left; there is never any left.”

The tension escalates when the wife attempts to reach for food, only to be stabbed in the hand.

She mutters ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ sarcastically, as their daughter collapses from hunger.

Since the episode aired, John Goodman has undergone a significant transformation.

Once known for his larger frame, the actor has lost over 200 pounds and now maintains a much healthier lifestyle.

In a 2016 interview with ABC News, Goodman opened up about his struggles, saying: “You don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”

He admitted to overeating compulsively and spoke candidly about the cycle of weight loss and relapse.

At 71 years old, Goodman appears to be in great shape, proving that his past no longer defines him.
