People are being warned not to dress up as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween following the success of the Netflix series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

As Halloween creeps upon us, Twitter users are slamming those who are planning to dress as the Milwaukee Cannibal, who killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

One person tweeted: “The constant lack of remorse for Dahmer’s victims on social media makes me believe many people are going dress as Jeffery Dahmer and his victims for Halloween and that is so sick.”

While Shirley Hughes, the mother of one of Dahmer’s victims Terry Hughes, described it as ‘super triggering’.

Another added: “Y’all…. Jeffrey Dahmer ain’t a good costume for Halloween. In any way.”

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but maybe that Jeffrey Dahmer Halloween costume is not a good idea,” someone else said

“Trying to emotionally prepare myself for the Jeffrey Dahmer Halloween costumes,” a fifth wrote.

Another person commented: “Don’t know who needs to hear this but don’t buy that blonde wig and glasses for that Jeffrey Dahmer Halloween costume you’re planning on putting together this month.”

While a seventh said: “If someone dresses up as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween, I’m slamming the door in their face.”

However, it’s not just people on the internet that are unhappy about the possibility of Jeffrey Dahmer becoming a popular Halloween costume this year.

Shirley Hughes, the mother of Tony Hughes – Dahmer’s deaf and non-vocal victim – told TMZ it is ‘super triggering’ to hear that people are even considering the idea.

Hughes also told the news outlet that it ‘hurts’ to see that Netflix and other companies are profiting from her son’s horrific death and that it’s re-victimising the families.

Although the majority of retail stores have opted out of selling Dahmer costumes, many are flocking to online sites such as eBay to get the props, including blonde wigs and even wire-rimmed glasses.

Addressing this issue, an eBay spokesperson told LADbible: “Under our disaster and tragedy policy, eBay does not allow the sale of items that portray, glorify or attempt to profit from human tragedy or suffering, or that are insensitive to victims of such events.

“Our team is reviewing a number of items listed in relation to Jeffrey Dahmer and will take action where appropriate.”

Following the release of the hit Netflix series, starring Evan Peters, Hughes has spoken out numerous times condemning the programme.

She told The Guardian: “I don’t see how they can do that

“I don’t see how they can use our names and put stuff out like that out there.”

This isn’t the only time a hit Netflix series has inspired thousands of people’s Halloween costumes.

Last year, following the release of the Squid Game, many trick-or-treaters ordered the show’s iconic tracksuits.

At the time, Chinese costume producers from Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, informed the Global Times that the daily sales could be as high as 3,000 units per day.

While a worker from Futian, Guangdong Province, claimed employees had to ‘work overtime’ in order to meet the high demand.

Amid this, American model Chrissy Teigen faced a ton of backlash for holding a ‘tone-deaf’ Squid Game party involving her rich friends.
