A brutally gory movie dubbed the ‘best WWII movie ever’ has been branded a ‘masterpiece’ by viewers.

A historical action thriller movie described as a combination of the John Wick franchise and Rambo has found a new audience on streaming platforms.

Singing its praise on social media, one fan writes: “The film is incredible man, a really good watch.”

Another adds: “The best movie I’ve seen in a long time… a must-watch.”

While a third declares: “It’s a more important WWII film than Oppenheimer.”

“Masterpiece of cinema… this underrated film perfectly embodies the concept of [strength and determination],” somebody else pens.

Reviewers are also extremely taken with the movie.

The Spectator‘s Deborah Ross wrote: “It is handsomely filmed with a suitably menacing score and is economical, moving briskly from one set-piece to the next.

“I may recover one day, but I haven’t as of yet.”

Cath Clark said in The Guardian: “For the rest of this extravagantly violent and cheerfully entertaining action film from Finland, director Jalmari Helander treats us to a comedy of deaths: a lavish grisly feast of Nazis meeting their maker in outrageous and wildly silly ways that had the audience I watched it with shrieking with laughter.”

For entertainment.ie, Brian Lloyd penned: “It’s sharp, strong, and leaves you thirsty for more.”

In addition to rave reviews from viewers and critics, it also has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 94% and 6.9 out of 10 on IMDb.

Sisu follows elderly recluse Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila) during the final days of WWII in Finland as he travels over 500 miles to bank some gold.

His mission to get rich is stalled when Nazis steal this from him.

But it turns out they messed with the wrong miner, as Aatami is a former commando who decides to embark on b***dy revenge.

One of the movie’s fans has actually come up with a theory on how Sisu and John Wick could be connected, speculating: “If they don’t tie this in to be a prequel/origin story for John Wick’s family then they are missing out for sure!

“Lionsgate should make Sisu the grandfather and how John’s family found their way into the hitman/revenge universe.”

Later this year, Sisu: Road to Revenge will be released. Tommila will reprise his role as Korpi, while Stephen Lang and Richard Brake will be joining the cast.
