The Witcher showrunner has said that Henry Cavill was ‘really annoying’ when wanting to play Geralt.

The Netflix series is an adaptation of the popular video game and book series of the same name.

The first two seasons – and the upcoming third season – star Henry Cavill as the main character Geralt of Riva.

However, Cavill dropped out and has been replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth season.

Now, The Witcher showrunner has spoken about what it was like to work with the Mission Impossible actor.

Cavill dropped out of the role after reprising his role as Superman in the DC superhero film Black Adam.

However, after James Gunn became the co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, it was revealed that a new Superman movie would be going ahead – without Cavill as the titular character.

The former Witcher star has made it no secret that he is a massive fan of video games.

He famously admitted that he missed the call that he got the Superman role because he was playing World of Warcraft.

And now it seems his passion initially annoyed showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich while she was writing the script.

It’s been revealed (via Fandomwire) that Cavill constantly asked his agents to organise a meeting with her from the moment that a Witcher TV series was in the works.

However, she turned down the requests because she was yet to write the script.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E stat kept pestering her – which she describes as ‘really annoying’ – forcing her to respond: “I will meet with you. The show is not greenlit. There is nothing. Thank you. Now I have to go write the show.”

Hissrich also revealed that 206 actors auditioned for the role of Geralt.

But as she continued working on the script, she soon realised that Cavill was the right man for the character because he was well aware and passionate about the source material.

Cavill was well aware of how annoying he was, as he admitted to Vulture.

He told the publisher: “It was something I wasn’t going to let pass me by without giving it my best shot. I annoyed my agents all the time. They said, ‘They’re not ready’.”

With Hemsworth now picking up the sword, Hissrich has said it feels like ‘a new chapter’ and it will ‘bring new energy’ to the much-adored show.

Speaking to GamesRadar about The Hunger Games actor joining the show, she said: “I’m so excited for viewers.

“I think that it’s just a new chapter for us. And I think new chapters bring new energy and that people will find things to love. So yeah, personally, I’m really excited.”
