It’s finally been revealed why Five Guys leaves so many extra fries at the bottom of the bag.

The fast food chain specialises in American hamburgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and French fries and it has almost 1,700 locations worldwide.

As well as being known for its mouthwatering burgers that come with tons of toppings, the burger joint is also popular thanks to its large portions – especially when it comes to fries.

While many fast food chains skimp when it comes down to generosity, Five Guys has become popular for the exact opposite reason.

On the chain’s website, there’s actually an explanation given as to why there are so many fries at the bottom of the bag.

A statement on the site reads: “Our fries are served in a white cup which varies in size depending on the portion ordered.

“Plus, we always add an ‘extra scoop’ of fries in the bag as we believe in generosity!

“We suggest sharing the fries if you are visiting with other people.

“We recommend that the serving size for 1 Little portion is between 1-2 people, and for 1 Large portion is between 3-4 people, although it’s up to you!”

Essentially, the ‘extra fries’ are included in the price that you pay.

The chain’s founder, Jerry Murrell, has also opened up about why there are so many fries given to customers.

He explained to Food Republic: “People complain they get too many fries too many fries. I just tell them to make hash browns with the leftovers.

“I teach my managers that if people aren’t complaining, then you’re not giving them enough.”

Basically, it’s a genius marketing strategy.

As well as being popular due to the portion size, Five Guy’s fries are also a customer favourite due to being fresh and hand-cut.

To secure their rich and buttery flavour, they’re apparently coated in peanut oil before being fried twice and shaken 15 times and many fans love them – which is evident by discussion online.

“Every time I go to Five Guys, I always get extra fries in the bag unexpectedly. They AIN’T STINGY,” one person writes.

Another adds: “I got a large not knowing… I could have filled the ‘large cup’ at least eight times with the fries from the bag.”

“It’s just fries but Five Guys has some damned good fries,” enthuses somebody else.

“The extra scoop of fries they add to the bottom of your bag at Five Guys has to be a top 5 all-time fast food invention,” pens a fourth person.

“Every single time I know they’re in there but they somehow taste 17% better than the ones in the container because it feels like a bonus.”
