Weird: The Al Yankovic Story starring Daniel Radcliffe is now certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes – here’s how you can watch it for free.

The Weird Al biopic will tell the ‘supposedly’ true story of the famous parody musician’s life, with the Harry Potter star playing the main character.

It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival where it was the People’s Choice recipient in the Midnight Madness Award category.

As the release date edges closer, reviews for the film have started to drop and it seems it could be one of the hits of the year.

John Nugent, who reviewed the film for Empire magazine, said: “Like any good ‘Weird Al’ song parody, Weird takes the music-biopic template and transforms it into something utterly absurd.”

While Alex Flood said in his review for NME: “Loads of fun, and often very funny, this is the perfect antidote to modern popstar blockbusters.”

Carla Hay added in her article for Culture Mix: “It isn’t a straightforward biopic but it’s more like a biopic parody, which is fitting, considering the movie is about music parody king ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. Daniel Radcliffe fully commits to an off-the-wall performance as Yankovic.”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story plot – what’s it all about?

Just like Weird Al’s musical career, the film is a parody of popular musical biopics that have come prior, such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman.

For example, the movie will portray Yankovic’s dad as unsupportive and very much against his dream, whereas in real life he was the complete opposite, with the singer even crediting his father for his success.

The film will be a satire that will reimagine different aspects of Yankovic’s life from jumping into bed with Madonna (played by Evan Rachel Wood), to exposing himself on stage, to even meeting Pablo Escobar.

Speaking to NME, Radcliffe revealed that he was hesitant about the role at first, as he didn’t feel he resembled Yankovic.

The Woman In Black star said: “I didn’t get at all what the premise of the film was. Then I started reading the script and realised, oh, naturalism and accuracy is not part of their game.”

He then revealed that his girlfriend and her family are huge fans of the artist, as he added: “My girlfriend Erin, she’s been to three concerts and her dad and brother have been to even more.

“I was like, absolutely do not tell your family, but when we did, the reaction was great.”

Radcliffe’s partner’s family are yet to see the movie but are sure they will enjoy it, which will be much to his relief.

He added: “If it hadn’t been good I could never listen to Al again but I also might well be single and would certainly never be allowed to see the in-laws again.”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is available exclusively on Roku from November 4.
