Fans have been left gobsmacked as Jada Pinkett Smith called Will Smith by his real name in a birthday post on social media.

The Men In Black actor, 55, married The Matrix actress, 52, in 1997 and the couple have two children together – Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22.

Despite their relationship being in the spotlight for both good and bad reasons, the pair still show affection for one another – which was clear in Pinkett Smith’s birthday post for her husband.

The Independence Day star celebrated his 55th birthday on September 25 and his wife took to Instagram to wish him a happy birthday.

She shared an old family photo of the four of them, along with Smith’s son Trey – who he had from his previous marriage with Sheree Zampino.

The caption reads: “I am so glad you were born on this day. Without you I would not have experienced the greatest joy of my life… the love of our family.

“On this Divine assignment we’ve chosen to walk together, I am grateful for the wells of laughter along the trails of tears we’ve shared.

“Thank you for helping me learn to embrace it all … with a smile. Here’s to 100+ more birthdays full of growth, acceptance and joy.”

But at the front of the caption she referred to Smith by his real name, Willard.

The King Richard actor’s full name is Willard Carroll Smith II and he is named after his father.

If you didn’t know this, you’re not alone because it seems that most people on the internet didn’t know either.

One person on social media writes: “Will Smith’s first name is Willard?!?!?!?!? Wtf…”

“I was today years old when I learned that Will Smith’s name isn’t short for William but Willard,” comments a second.

Someone else pens: “I just found out today that Will Smith’s full name is Willard not William.”

Another user adds: “Bruh never knew Will Smith’s real name was Willard. That’s so funny.”

“Will Smith’s real name being Willard and not William blows me,” comments a fifth person.

This comes after people have only recently discovered the reason why the couple came up with the names Jaden and Willow for their children.

Someone on Twitter, who goes by the username @kxngtroopa, shared and broke down their names, explaining that they are actually a clever variation of their parent’s first and middle names.

It was further explained by screenshots which read: “Willard Oliver Smith Jr and Jada Naomi Pinkett Smith.”

The user then pointed out that these sound like ‘Will O’ and ‘Jada N’ – which they altered to make Jaden and Willow.
