The new Superman has officially been announced.
Henry Cavill, 40, first donned the superhero cape in Man of Steel back in 2013 and he has since gone on to appear as the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
The Enola Holmes star also reprised the role in the post-credit scenes of Black Adam, as well as making a brief cameo in The Flash.
Last year, Cavill was set to return to the role of Superman but just five weeks later, this plan came to a halt.

The Immortals star’s shock departure from the role has come due to the fact the newly-formed DC Studios plan on taking Superman in a completely new direction than the creative team over at Warner Bros.
The film, which is set to be released in 2025, will reportedly restore ‘Truth, Justice and the American Way’ as the hero’s slogan.

Before referencing the new slogan, the movie’s press release states (via Daily Mail): “Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman’s prior scrapped ‘mission statement’ was ‘Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow’ – which faced a ton of backlash.
As well as a new mission statement, there will also be a new actor taking over the role.
It has been announced that the Look Both Ways actor David Corenswet will replace Cavill.

The 29-year-old has never taken on a leading role in a major studio production before and he will be starring alongside Rachel Brosnahan, 32, as Lois Lane, reports Deadline.
Corenswet and Brosnahan were reportedly alongside a select few testing for DC co-chairs Peter Safran and director James Gunn in full costume and makeup.
Three actors are believed to have donned ‘full Superman attire’ following a months-long search for the new stars.
Other actors reportedly battling out for the Superman role were British actors Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult, while Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey were rumoured to take on the role of Lois Lane.
Earlier this year, Safran and Gunn defended their decision not to bring back Cavill.
During a presentation to reporters, Gunn is believed to have said: “We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast.”
