Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that Adele told her not to accept a role in a movie she starred in that went on to flop.

The Oscar-winning actress has starred in a number of successful films such as The Hunger Games franchise, the X-Men series, and Don’t Look Up.

After taking a short hiatus from acting, Lawrence is set to return to our screens in the A24 and Apple TV+ film Causeway.

While making her return, Lawrence has addressed that she’s made some career mistakes.

One of them is the sci-fi film Passengers (2016) which she starred in alongside Chris Pratt.

In the film, Aurora (Lawrence) and Jim (Pratt) are the only passengers on a voyage to a distant colony after being woken up from hypersleep and they must work together to save the ship.

Despite the film having two of the biggest actors of the last decade leading the project, the film only scored 30% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $303,144,152 on a budget of $110,000,000.

In a recent feature with the New York Times, Laurence spoke about how the film made her feel.

She says: “I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’.”

Lawrence then reveals that she had received advice before signing on to Passengers from Adele, who had apparently told her to reject the project.

The Red Sparrow actress continues: “Adele told me not to do it. She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies’. I should have listened to her.

“Everything was like a rebound effect. I was reacting, rather than just acting.

“I felt like more of a celebrity than an actor, cut off from my creativity, my imagination.”

Laurence’s upcoming project, Causeway, follows her character Lynsey who suffers a brain injury after her vehicle is destroyed by a bomb while serving in Afghanistan.

The US soldier then returns to her home in New Orleans, where she struggles to return to her daily life.

In a previous interview with Variety, The Mother! star admits that she suffered from burnout and felt like she ‘lost control’ of her career.

Lawrence tells the outlet: “I think I lost a sense of control. Between The Hunger Games coming out and winning the Oscar [for Silver Linings Playbook].

“I became such a commodity that I felt like every decision was a big, big group decision.”

During 2012 and 2015, when the first and last Hunger Games film was released, Lawrence starred in eight different films.

She continues in her interview with Variety: “When I reflect now, I can’t think of those following years, [because there was] just a loss of control.”

Causeway will be available to stream on Apple TV+ from November 4.
