Jonah Hill was only paid $60,000 (£36k) for his performance in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Hill, 39, is an American comedic actor who is known for his roles in Superbad, 21 Jump Street and Get Him to the Greek.

However, he’s also known for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street, which scored him five Oscar nominations, including a Best Supporting Actor consideration, following his first one for starring in Moneyball opposite Brad Pitt.

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, via the BBC, the actor opened up about his salary for the blockbuster hit and how it was the ‘lowest amount’ he could get.

Hill claimed: “They gave me the lowest amount of money possible.

“That was their offer and I said, ‘I will sign the paper tonight. Fax them the papers tonight. I want to sign them tonight before they change their mind.

“I want to sign them before I go to sleep tonight so they legally can’t change their mind’.”

The actor said he wanted to work with director Martin Scorsese, so thought the sacrifice would be worth it.

Hill added: “I would sell my house and give him all my money to work for him.

“I would have done anything in the world. I would do it again in a second. This isn’t about money. You should do things that you care about.”

The actor added that his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who also produced the film, earned about $10 million (£6.2m).

In another interview with Indiewire, Hill described working with Scorsese as being ‘organised chaos’.

The 21 Jump Street actor explained: “It exceeded my expectations, and my expectations couldn’t have been higher.

“As far as what I’ve learned, what I was able to do with Donnie doesn’t come along often in people’s careers—to be that unhinged, messed up, fractured and out of control.

“I think what Scorsese does better than anybody else is he creates organised chaos.

“He creates a safe and organised place for people to become completely unhinged, and I don’t know how he does that.”

Previously, Hill said that although he enjoyed the role, he didn’t particularly like his character.

In The Wolf Of Wall Street, Hill played Donnie Azoff, Belfort’s (DiCaprio) right-hand man and closest associate.

Azoff comes across as a power-hungry bully who is horrible to his fellow employees in many scenes.

In one scene, he fires an employee and then eats his goldfish in front of everyone, which was performed for real.

In an interview with Grantland, Hill explained how they shot the scene, saying: “PETA wouldn’t let me eat a real goldfish so they had a real goldfish and, on set, they had three goldfish handlers.

“Three real human goldfish wranglers. And I could keep it in my mouth for three seconds at a time and then we had to put it back in the water.”

The actor clearly impressed Scorsese, as the pair are set to collaborate in an upcoming film about Grateful Dead lead singer Jerry Garcia, which Hill pitched to the legendary director himself.
