Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have both addressed relationship rumours after their convincing performance in A Star Is Born.
In the Oscar-nominated film, which came out in 2018, the pair both play musicians who end up falling for one another and their chemistry on-screen was praised by fans and critics.
Cooper and Gaga performed one of the movie’s songs together at the prestigious awards ceremony in 2019, which fueled relationship rumours. However, the chart-topping singer shot this down when she told Oprah, via the Daily Express, they ‘did a really good job at fooling everyone’.

In a separate interview with Elle in 2019, she said: “We made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love.
“We wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars, we worked hard on it, we worked for days. We mapped the whole thing out – it was orchestrated as a performance.”
The performance started as they walked on stage together holding hands.

The pair then shared a stool on the piano and sang ‘Shallow,’ a song from the film, together while Gaga rested her head on Cooper’s shoulders.
Rumours had already existed, especially as they both had recently split from their partners, but this performance added more fuel to the fire.
Despite this, Cooper told The Hollywood Reporter, via the Daily Express, in 2021 that he choreographed the performance to be intimate as a way to ‘reduce his anxiety’.
He added: “[Ally and Jackson] kind of fall in love in that scene in the film. It’s that explosive moment that happens to happen to them on a stage in front of thousands of people. It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience.”

A Star Is Born was Gaga’s first leading Hollywood role, while the film was also Cooper’s first time directing a film, along with being the leading man.
The film came was critically acclaimed and picked up a number of Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Leading Actress.
‘Shallow’ even won Best Original Song at the 2019 awards ceremony.
