People have been left gobsmacked after finding out what the real lyrics to the Black Eyed Peas’ song ‘Let Get It Started’ are.
The group, which is made up of will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and formerly Fergie, were arguably one of the biggest bands of the 2000s.
They came out with hits such as ‘Where Is The Love’, ‘I Gotta Feeling’ and ‘Pump It’.
One of their earliest tracks was ‘Let’s Get It Started’ and only now are fans finding out the history behind it.

‘Let’s Get It Started’ hit the charts in 2004, where it reached 21 on the Billboard US and number 11 in the UK.
It went on to be one of the Black Eyed Peas’ most recognisable tracks due to its catchy chorus.
However, when the song first debuted on the band’s third studio album ‘Elephunk’, it originally had a much more offensive title.
Initially, the track was titled ‘Let’s Get R*****ed’, which stuck until the band re-released the much more appropriate title ‘Let’s Get It Started’.

Despite the offensive slur in its title, it faced very little backlash at the time.
However, the group appears to have made an effort to remove proof of its original title – as they got rid of ‘Let’s Get R*****ed’ from their official track listing, as well as removing it from all digital and streaming platforms.
After finding out the single’s original name, people have been taking to social media and reacting.
One person comments: “I feel like the collective American consciousness completely forget that the Black Eyed Peas recorded a song called ‘Let’s Get R*****ed’ 100% straightfaced.”
Another adds: “I don’t think I can ever hear ‘Let’s Get It Started’ again because yesterday I learned it was originally ‘Let’s Get R*****ed’ and Black Eyed Peas took a year to fix it.”
While a third says: “The number of people just finding out that the Black Eyed Peas song ‘Let’s Get it Started’ was originally ‘Let’s Get R*****ed’ is incredible.”

Since 2018, Fergie has been replaced in the band by J. Rey Soul – the winner of the Philippines version of The Voice.
The band revealed to to Billboard (via E! News) that Fergie has left the group to devote herself to being a ‘great mom’.

Will.i.am explained: “We love her, and she’s focusing on being a mom.
“That’s a hard job, and that’s what she really wants to do and we’re here for her.
“It’s really the way Fergie designed it, so we’re respecting her design. We love Fergie, and we don’t want anything but awesomeness for her.”
