‘Castlecore’ Is The New S** Trend Everyone’s Talking About
People are obsessing over the hot new bedroom trend called ‘castlecore.’
From ‘JOI’ videos to the unusual art of ‘hamstering,’ to ‘shallowing’ or even affirmations, bedroom trends are on the rise.
A new report highlights the growing popularity of a unique erotic trend dubbed ‘castlecore-rotica,’ an offshoot of the medieval-inspired ‘castlecore’ aesthetic that has gained traction on platforms like TikTok and Pinterest.
While castlecore typically focuses on fashion and interior design elements reminiscent of the Middle Ages, such as Gothic-style furniture and corseted gowns, the trend is now influencing bedroom practices in new and surprising ways.
According to Lovehoney, one of the UK’s leading s** toy retailers, customers are increasingly exploring fantasy-inspired intimacy, MailOnline reports.
The company attributes this shift partly to the surge of interest in ‘romantasy’ fiction – a genre that blends romance with fantastical elements like mythical beings and medieval settings.
Lovehoney reports a 78% increase in searches for ‘smut books’ between May 2023 and May 2024, with novels like ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ playing a key role in fueling the movement.
Annabelle Knight, a relationships expert for Lovehoney, explained the genre’s appeal: “‘Romantasy’ offers a space to explore deep desires without the constraints of everyday reality. Let’s face it, reality can be a bit dull sometimes, so who wouldn’t want to dive into a world filled with fairies and forbidden romance?”
She added that such narratives can be empowering, especially for women, as they often center on strong female protagonists who embrace their desires and personal power.
The trend has extended to s** toys modeled after the anatomy of fantasy creatures such as dragons, with Lovehoney reporting a ‘sevenfold’ increase in interest.
The company notes that corsets, a hallmark of both medieval fashion and the castlecore aesthetic, are also making a strong comeback.
However, medical experts caution against the health risks associated with their use.
Wearing corsets too tightly or for extended periods can impair breathing by compressing the diaphragm and cause digestive issues, including acid reflux and constipation.
Long-term use may also result in the displacement of internal organs like the kidneys, or even rib and liver damage.
Additionally, limited mobility can weaken back muscles, leading to chronic pain and poor posture.
There are also safety concerns related to the fantasy-themed s** toys now growing in popularity.
Toys without a flared base can become lodged in the body, sometimes requiring emergency medical intervention.
Experts advise users to ensure their toys are made from body-safe materials and to check compatibility with lubricants, as certain formulas may degrade the toy’s surface, increasing the risk of bacterial contamination.
