However, what happens when a hobby or interest sparks division rather than unity?
This very question ignited a heated debate recently when a woman’s online comments about what she considers the ‘least attractive’ hobby for men set social media ablaze.
Her controversial statement has divided opinions, with some fiercely agreeing, while others rushed to defend the hobby in question.
Some people were quick to agree with her, stating that they also found the same interest unappealing in potential partners.
“It’s just so unproductive,” one person commented, adding that they prefer someone who spends their time more actively or creatively.
Another chimed in, saying: “I dated a guy who was obsessed with it, and it was like he didn’t have time for anything else. I felt invisible.”
On the flip side, fans and participants of the hobby rushed to its defense.
“Why should anyone be judged for how they choose to spend their free time?” one person asked.
Another commenter pointed out that hobbies are deeply personal and provide stress relief, writing: “Some people do it to unwind after a hard day’s work. Everyone needs an escape.”
Liz Wheeler, a conservative commentator, has sparked controversy by asserting that playing video games is the least attractive hobby a man can have.
The influencer made the bold statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, in a post that garnered millions of views – and plenty of backlash.
“This is 100% true,” Wheeler commented above a graph titled ‘Least Attractive Hobbies for Men According To Women.’
The graph – created as a joke by an anonymous source – humorously ranked video games as less appealing than collecting figurines, building model trains, and collecting comic books when it came to hobbies that turned women off.
“Men playing video games is peak unattractive,” Wheeler added. “Beyond red flag. Like, dealbreaker zone. It’s odd that so many guys don’t understand this.”
Although the graph wasn’t based on any actual data, Wheeler stood by her statement, claiming it reflected reality.
She later posted a follow-up video on YouTube, reinforcing her opinion: “Video games, even if you enjoy them, shouldn’t define who you are.”
“If you think I’ve somehow attacked your identity, which I haven’t, that’s on you, because part of your identity is tied to video games,” she added.
Wheeler continued, explaining: “It’s a simple observation about human nature and culture that women just don’t find men playing video games attractive. It’s simply a fact.”
After her initial post, Wheeler faced pushback from passionate gamers.
“That’s fine. We’d rather play video games than deal with modern women,” one frustrated man wrote.
Another said: “Women like you think your company is more valuable than a good video game. You’re wrong.”
Interestingly, many women voiced their support for men who game.
“Nah, video games are fine,” one woman shared. “Guys deal with a lot, and if a man handles his responsibilities, why shouldn’t he play video games?”
However, a few women sided with Wheeler, saying men who play video games are a turn-off.
“I keep trying to tell them, and they just get mad at me,” one wrote, while another said the statement was “spot on.”
