The man who owns a viral ‘haunted’ painting has explained the strange reason he claims he’ll never sell it.
In the world of paranormal phenomena, few objects inspire as much fear and fascination as haunted paintings.
Among these, The Anguished Man, an eerie and disturbing artwork, has gained notoriety not only for its unsettling appearance but also for the strange occurrences that surround it.
But strangely enough, the owner of the painting has vowed he’ll never part with it…
The exact origin of The Anguished Man remains shrouded in mystery.
According to Sean Robinson, the current owner of the painting and the person who brought its haunting story to public attention, via his YouTube channel, it was inherited from his grandmother.
She had kept it hidden in her attic for 25 years, warning the family of its disturbing presence.
The painting depicts a grotesque and tortured face, distorted in pain and misery.
Its colors are a somber mix of reds and browns, with dark, shadowy strokes that enhance the overall sense of despair.
What makes The Anguished Man truly horrifying, however, is not just the visual discomfort it creates, but the dark legend that surrounds its creation.
According to Robinson, the artist who painted the piece mixed his own blood into the paint and committed suicide shortly after completing the work.
This macabre detail has led many to believe that the artist’s suffering, or even his spirit, is somehow trapped within the painting.
After Robinson brought the painting into his home, the family began experiencing a series of inexplicable and disturbing events.
Doors would slam shut on their own, strange whispering voices were heard in the middle of the night, and shadowy figures appeared around the house.
On several occasions, Robinson and his family reported waking up to see a misty figure standing at the foot of their bed, watching them silently.
The most disturbing occurrences involved physical interactions with the painting.
Robinson claimed that both he and his wife had felt an invisible force tugging at their clothes while they were near the painting.
At times, the sensation was accompanied by sudden cold drafts, even in the absence of open windows.
These unsettling experiences were so frequent that Robinson set up a camera in his home to capture any strange activity.
In 2010, Robinson uploaded a series of videos to YouTube that purportedly show paranormal occurrences linked to the painting.
The footage, while not providing definitive proof of the supernatural, shows objects moving on their own, unexplained sounds, and sudden shifts in lighting.
These videos have attracted millions of views and sparked widespread debate about whether The Anguished Man is truly haunted or if the phenomenon can be explained by more rational means.
The eerie happenings surrounding The Anguished Man have drawn the attention of paranormal investigators and enthusiasts.
One theory suggests that the painting acts as a conduit for the spirit of the artist, who is believed to have endured great emotional and physical torment.
The idea is that his intense suffering, combined with the alleged use of his own blood in the artwork, somehow bound his spirit to the painting.

Though he has since moved the painting into storage, away from his family’s living space, the legend of The Anguished Man continues to spread, fueled by online discussions, forums, and even appearances in television documentaries exploring haunted objects.
But in spite of the creepy nature of the painting, Robinson has shared why he refuses to part with it.
It’s understandable to be skeptical about the idea of a portrait that can make such unsettling noises, but this is no ordinary artwork.
“I am a believer now, there is definitely something wrong with that painting. The fact that he used his own blood,” Robinson said, adding: “It might be that it was some sort of ritual, I believe it may be a self-portrait.”
Despite these unnerving encounters, Robinson has no intention of selling the painting.
“At first, we didn’t relate [the noises] to the painting, but it became obvious they only started when we brought it into the house,” he explained.
In 2015, rumors circulated that the painting was up for sale on eBay for £1,500. However, Robinson quickly clarified the situation.
Speaking to Dread Central, he confirmed he had no plans to sell it: “Unfortunately and to disappoint all the collectors of haunted items and all the horror fans looking for the best Christmas present ever, we have to let you down by telling you that the painting is locked away in a secure place and it is not for sale.”
He added: “All other paintings appearing for sale online which claim to be The Anguished Man are frauds. I can guarantee you that the original haunted painting is locked away in a secure location, and I have no intention of selling it.
“That could be dangerous, and it would not be wise for anyone to lay their hands on the painting because it is really active and really strange things happen for people who are in the same room, or even in the same house with the painting.”
Though there were rumors in 2016 that the rights to the painting’s story had been sold to a film company, there have been no further updates on a potential movie adaptation.
