Matthew Perry fans are just finding out that he has a famous parent.

Perry, 54, is best known for starring as Chandler Bing in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning TV show Friends.

The American sitcom follows six friends who live in New York City.

Over the years, several celebrity guests have popped up in a number of episodes, including Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

But many fans do not realise that Perry’s father actually stars in one of the episodes.

Perry recently took to Instagram to share a sweet snap of himself next to his father John Bennett Perry, alongside the caption: “Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage.”

The image has got Friends fans talking, as a number of viewers of the sitcom have suddenly realised that they’ve seen his dad’s face before.

Die-hard Friends fans may know that Perry’s father stars in the episode ‘The One with Rachel’s New Dress’ alongside his son in 1998.

In the iconic episode, Rachel has an awkward encounter with Joshua’s parents – with one being Perry’s dad.

The loved-up pair are enjoying a romantic date night as they’re under the illusion that Joshua’s parents are away on holiday.

When his parents barge in, Rachel is wearing a risky gown, to which she tells them it’s a dress by an Italian designer.

After seeing the post, fans of the show have rushed to the comment section, with one writing: “Wait. He was Joshua’s dad in the episode where Jennifer was wearing a nightie as a dress. His best line I like this one, she seems smart.”

A second user added: “Chandler Bing and Joshua’s dad!”

A third user quipped: “I loved it when your father made an appearance on Friends in season 4. Playing Joshua’s dad.”

It’s not just Friends that Perry’s father has starred in, he has actually appeared in several critically acclaimed movies such as Independence Day and George Of The Jungle.

The 82-year-old actor has also collaborated with his son on set for an episode of the 2011 series Mr. Sunshine.

Additionally, the father and son shared the screen in the 1997 film Fools Rush In.

Perry rarely opens up about his personal life, however, in the lead-up to his memoir ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing’ the actor shared his anticipation for embarking on the journey to start his own family.

During an interview with People in October 2022, he expressed his newfound confidence in his sobriety after grappling with a long-standing struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.

The 17 Again actor revealed that he had overcome his fears of marriage, signalling a positive shift in his life.

Perry said: “I’m not run by the fear I used to be run by so everything’s kind of different.

“I’m feeling more confident and I’m not afraid of love anymore, so the next girl I go out with better watch out.”

When questioned about his prospects of becoming a father, he added: “I think I’d be great. I really do. I grew up with a lot of little kids around me, and that’s probably why, but I can’t wait.”
