McDonald’s has revealed that its cheeseburgers will be going up in price for the first time in 14 years.

The fast-food chain announced that the food item will now cost £1.19, having previously only been 99p.

Its said that the rise in price is due to the growing cost pressures and ‘living through incredibly challenging times.’

In an email sent to customers by McDonald’s UK and Ireland chief Alistair Macrow, he explained: “We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could.”

He further added: “Some prices remain unaffected, and some will continue to vary across our restaurants. We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could.”

Other items on the menu that will cost more include certain breakfast meals, McNugget share boxes, and large coffees.

This follows as other large corporations have announced they will be increasing prices due to the economic crisis happening across the world.

Amazon has risen the subscription fee for its Prime service by £1, the first time it has done so in seven years.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola has recently announced that its global prices had increased by 5%.

The changes McDonald’s revealed have become a talking point on social media.

One user said: “This is an even worse sign of inflation than tracking the price of a Freddo Frog bar.”

Someone else posted: “Won’t be surprised if they raise it twice by the end of this year.”

However, some users have seen the funny side of this story, with one person writing: “Hopefully they invest the difference in milkshake machines that work.”
