Former adult star Mia Khalifa has revealed why she no longer wears her signature glasses.

Mia Khalifa left the industry in 2015 and has since pursued other ventures, such as becoming an author, being a social media influencer on TikTok and Instagram, as well as having her own jewellery business.

Khalifa is one of the biggest stars to have come out of the adult film business and it’s fair to say her glasses are a part of her signature look – but not anymore.

In a video on TikTok, the Sheytan co-founder responded to a woman who said she stopped wearing her glasses to high school because she’d be compared to Khalifa and had been made to feel ‘uncomfortable’.

Khalifa replied with a tearful video, alongside the caption: “I’m so sorry. I don’t wear them anymore for this reason.”

The clip has garnered sympathy from Khalifa’s followers, who have taken to the comments to show their support for the woman.

“This breaks my heart, we love you both so much,” pens one person.

Another user adds: “This is so messed up. you both look beautiful in glasses.”

“I don’t even know this girl but I feel so bad for her,” comments a third.

Someone else writes: “I wish I could give you a big hug. You don’t deserve this. It’s never your fault.”

Following the support, Khalifa thanked her fans on her Instagram story, at the time penning (via Buzzfeed): “I know that deep down, but the guilt is crushing.

“I wish I could protect every little girl from the male gaze. I know how I feel when men harass me in public, it kills me that other girls get the same abuse just for looking like me.”

Khalifa actually put her trademark glasses up for auction in 2020 to raise money following the port explosion in her hometown Beirut, Lebanon – which saw at least 218 people lose their lives.

With all proceedings going towards the Lebanese Red Cross, Khalifa received an offer of $100,000.

The former adult star made the announcement on eBay, where she said: “The infamous Mia Khalifa glasses – auction. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Lebanese Red Cross and its tireless efforts in Beirut.

“I’ll be on IG live when the money clears to live stream the donation via wire transfer to LRC.”

Admitting she’d never used eBay before, Khalifa added: “I’m just trying to get creative, there’s always more that can be done and this felt like a cheeky way to raise funds and make sure the conversation and attention doesn’t diverge from this crisis.

“Creeps are welcome, your money is just as green as ours.

“I’m putting the link in my bio for a few hours then changing it back to the Beirut Relief resources landing page. After that I’ll house the links/posts in a pinned memory for ready access.

Happy bidding, ya filthy animals.”

The person who won the bid eventually pulled out and never paid but this didn’t stop the former adult star from keeping to her promise and donating $100,000 of her own money to the charity.
