House of the Dragon fans are ‘devastated’ that Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, who play Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, have left the HBO show.

Episode 5 of the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel marks a ten-year time jump, which means the pair will be replaced by an adult version of their characters.

Despite many fans being aware of this, they’ve taken to Twitter and expressed their disappointment that they won’t see the two actresses in the series again.

One tweeted: “Thank You Milly Alcock for being the best young version of Rhaenyra Targaryen we could have ever asked for, your performance will live on in our hearts forever.”

“No more Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra after tonight I’m actually devastated,” another added.

Another person praised Carey’s take on the character, writing: “Thank you Emily Carey for being the best young version of Alicent Hightower we could have asked for.

“You brought something completely new and fresh to the character and separated the character from its book counterpart in such a good way, we’ll miss you.”

A fourth fan shared: “Anyways, finished watching House Of The Dragon Episode 5 and I just wanna say thank you to Milly Alcock and Emily Carey for bringing young Rhaenyra and Alicent to life for the first half of House Of The Dragon Season 1.”

Alcock and Carey’s performances have been highly praised, with ScreenRant having said: “Alcock and Carey have been so brilliant in the roles. They’ve added even greater depth to the characters from George RR Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ book, making them as sympathetic as they are complex.”

While fans are looking forward to Cooke and D’Arcy’s portrayal of the two characters, viewers will miss Alcock and Carey’s performances.

Can Milly Alcock and Emily Carey still return to House of the Dragon?

Although there is a time jump in the next episode of House of the Dragon, Alcock and Carey could still make an appearance in the HBO show.

For starters, the stars have both confirmed that they did shoot more scenes that were cut from the fantasy drama.

The cut footage would have shown the pair’s relationship in the build-up to Hightower’s wedding to King Viserys, which the show is also skipping.

Discussing this with The Hollywood Reporter, Carey said: “It’s been spoken about, conversations have happened, but, in all honesty, I know absolutely nothing and I have no idea.

“Of course, I would love to come back. It depends on how it’s received and where they want take the show next.”

She added: I’m just going with the flow!”

House of the Dragon is available to watch from 2am on Mondays in the UK on Sky and NOW TV, and is repeated at 9pm on Monday evenings. It is also available to stream on Sky and NOW after first being aired.
