News anchor Emily Matson has sadly died aged 42.
Matson worked as a local news anchor for Pennsylvanian outlet Erie News Now – also known as WICU 12 News.
She was a two-time winner of the Outstanding Spot News Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.
Devastatingly, it has been confirmed that Matson has passed away.

In a statement shared by her employer Erie News Now, Matson is described as a ‘shining light’ in the newsroom.
It reads: “It is with a very heavy heart that we have learned of the passing of our beloved Erie News Now news anchor Emily Matson.
“Emily was a shining light in our newsroom, delivering news with a passion and love she had for the Erie community and Northwest Pennsylvania.
“We loved Emily dearly and our hearts go out to the Matson family and her husband Ryan at this time.”
At the time of writing, Matson’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
Her colleague at Erie News Now, Jamison Hixenbaugh, has paid tribute to Matson in a Facebook post – calling her ‘a talented journalist and anchor’ and an ‘incredible friend’.
“Working side-by-side with her off-and-on for the past 15 years, I can vouch… she was one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met,” Hixenbaugh penned.
“She was such a talented journalist and anchor, but even more, she was an incredible friend. From being side-splittingly funny and feisty, to thoughtful and caring… I’m going to miss you being around Em.”

Tennessee-based WVLT anchor and Matson’s former colleague, Christyn Allen, has also shared a series of photos of the pair on her Instagram page, as well as some kind words in memory of her.
Allen said: “She was a voice of reason, the brightest light, an insanely hard worker, a goofball and your biggest cheerleader.
“She was a fiercely loyal friend, and if you were lucky enough to be one of her people, you’d hit the jackpot.
“She always made sure her people were taken care of. I’m so thankful our paths crossed, and we never lost touch.”

Matson worked at Eries News Now for almost 20 years before her passing.
She became an anchor at the station after previously being a reporter and morning show producer, according to her first-person bio on Erie News Now’s website.
In her bio for Erie News Now, Matson wrote: “I feel I’m really making a difference in the Erie community, meeting new people, and telling the stories that affect everybody every day.
“One of the things I love about my job is that no single day is EVER the same.
“I love breaking news situations.”
Matson is survived by her husband Ryan.
