Authorities Issue Update On Shooter After Charlie Kirk Assassinated
U.S. authorities have issued an update after Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist, was assassinated on a university campus in Utah.
The MAGA activist, 31, was brutally shot dead while speaking at an event with thousands of students in attendance, on a university campus in Utah.
President Trump confirmed the death of the MAGA influencer in a statement.
It read: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.
“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.
“Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10, and footage shared on social media depicts the moment a loud bang was heard.
Kirk was violently struck in the neck before collapsing in his chair, and blood was seen pouring from the wound.
Following the brutal shooting, U.S. authorities have issued an update on the shooter.
The manhunt for the perpetrator is ongoing, but law enforcement have noted that two people were arrested, but have since been released.
They added that the individuals had ‘no current ties’ to the shooting.
It’s not clear whether police have leads on the gunman.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Wednesday evening (via the BBC): “The subjects in custody have been released after an interrogation by law enforcement.”
He added: “Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency.”
A dark shape appeared to be seen on the roof of the Losee Center at Utah Valley University when the shooting happened.
After confirming his death, President Trump addressed the American people, paying tribute to his close friend.
He noted that he is ‘filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk,’ and that it is a truly ‘dark moment for America.’
The Justice Department is investigating the shooting, as Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche described it as a ‘senseless act of violence.’
