Dad Made Chilling Confession Before Killing His 7 Children
A dad who killed eight children, including seven of his own, made a chilling confession in the weeks leading up to the horrific attack.
Shamar Elkins was shot dead by police after opening fire in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the early hours of Sunday, April 19, following an argument with his wife.
The 31-year-old launched his attack in three different addresses, walking through the front doors and commencing fire, fatally shooting seven of his own children and one of his their cousins, who were all aged between three and eleven.
Two women were also shot, including Elkins’ wife Shaneiqua Pugh, who was shot in the face but survives, and the mother of the eighth child killed, who remains in a critical condition.
Many of the children were shot in the head as they slept, however the eldest killed was shot after escaping out onto the roof. Another child managed to escape but sustained serious injuries after having to jump from a rooftop to get away.
Elkins was eventually tracked down by police after a carjacking and a chase ensued, leading to the attacker being fatally shot by authorities.
Shamar Elkins had a history of violence
The gunman previously served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 2013 to 2020, working as both a signal support system specialist and a fire support specialist. He never deployed overseas and left the service at the rank of private.
He was employed at UPS at the time of the brutal attack.
However, the devastating events of April 19 were not Elkins’ first run in with the law, following previous firearm offences back in 2019.
Seven years ago, he was arrested on charges of illegal use of weapons and carrying a firearm on school property after firing five rounds at a vehicle near a school after another driver pulled a gun on him.
He plead guilty to the weapons charge later that year and was placed on probation for 18 months, while the firearm charge was dismissed.
Police have confirmed it’s likely Elkins was banned from legally owning firearms, yet he was in possession of a small-calibre handgun and a rifle-style pistol when police confronted him following the killings

A UPS co-worker described Elkins as being a ‘devoted father,’ they also said Elkins often appeared under intense stress, sometimes to the level of pulling out his hair.
As it turns out, the 31-year-old had made a concerning admission just weeks before the savage attack, during a conversation with his mother Mahelia Elkins and step-father Marcus Jackson, on Easter Sunday.
Elkins is said to have told his parents he was really suffering with ‘dark thoughts’ and was considering taking his own life.
Jackson told the New York Times: “I told him, ‘you can beat stuff, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it.’ Then I remember him telling me, ‘some people don’t come back from their demons.'”
Mahelia said she was completely unaware of the issues her son and his wife were going through, however another family member has confirmed they were in the middle of separating and were due to appear in court the day after the attack.
Relative Crystal Brown said the couple had been fighting about their marriage coming to an end when he first launched the attack.
Disturbing final social media post
Perhaps one of the most disturbing elements of the truly horrific turn of events was what his final social media post revealed just hours before he gunned down most of his children.
On the evening of Saturday April 18, just hours before the killings, Elkins posted a photograph to Facebook of himself and his eldest daughter at a restaurant.
She was eating a burger, and he was clearly enjoying spending time with her. The caption read: “Lol!!!! Took my oldest on a lil 1 on 1 date had to catch her down bad ugh ugh,” followed by a string of laughing and crying emojis.
However, there were a number of posts made prior to his outing with his daughter, which read very differently following the events of Sunday morning.
On April 9, Elkins published what appeared to be a prayer — an appeal to God for help with anger, depression, and anxiety.
“Dear God, Today I ask You to help me guard my mind and my emotions. When negativity arises, remind me to say, ‘It does not belong to me, in the name of Jesus’,” it read.
“When depression tries to settle in, when anger rises, when anxiety or panic comes, give me the awareness to recognize what is not from You and the strength to reject it immediately in the name of JESUS.”
