Woman Who Dated Mackenzie Shirilla In Prison Reveals Her ‘Sick’ Plan After Release
A former inmate who dated Mackenzie Shirilla in prison has revealed the 21-year-old’s ‘sick’ plans for when she’s released from jail.
Mackenzie Shirilla, from Ohio, is currently serving 15 years to life, after being found guilty of killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his best friend, Davion Flanagan, during a horrific 100mph crash in July 2022.
A court decided that Shirilla, who was just 17 years old at the time, had intentionally caused the crash, after data from the smashed up vehicle revealed accelerator was fully depressed in the moments leading up to the impact and the breaks were never applied.
She was found guilty on four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of drug possession, and one count of possessing criminal tools.
Shirilla, whose crimes have recently been documented in Netflix’s The Crash, is currently incarcerated in the Ohio Reformatory for Women, where she will be eligible for parole in October 2037.
Mackenzie Shirilla’s prison girlfriend speaks out
It seems the 21-year-old has earned herself quite a reputation during her three years behind bars, according to former inmate Shyann Topping, who has a brief but intimate relationship with the killer.
Since her release, Topping has opened up about what Shirilla was really like in jail, revealing how the pair first met on the outdoor track at the facility.
The 27-year-old told People she walked up to her fellow inmate and told her: “You look good,” and not long after, they started dating. But it was short lived, as two weeks later, Topping was released.
“When it started off we were good. We were just walking the track, she was smiling, because in prison, two weeks in prison feels like two months,” she recalled.
“All you’re doing is seeing the same people every single day, 24 hours a day.”
However, by day three things were already turning toxic, according to Topping, who said Shirilla told her: “Why aren’t you touching me? I want you to be all over me. I want you to be out here for everyone in the yard to see me.”
Although the pair continued to stay in close contact following Topping’s release at first, things turned sour when she started doing her own research into the deadly crash and began feeling like she had been lied to.
“It was crazy because after I found out [the details] of her case and we stopped talking to each other and it fizzled out, people started texting me and saying crazy stuff to me,” the former prisoner said.

Mackenzie Shirilla’s plans for after prison
In another interview, the inmate spoke to the US Sun, where she revealed Shirilla, who was ‘pretty and bubbly’ but could be a mean girl, had told her she had been given the nickname ‘Shirilla the killa’ in jail.
The latter even went on to share her plans for when she is eventually freed from incarceration, which could happen anytime after 2037 when she will be eligible for parole.
“She said she was just gonna live it [if she gets out]. Like she’s gonna go back to concerts. She’s gonna travel,” Topping said.
“She’s gonna be an influencer and write a book when she gets out about everything that happened. She said it might take some time, but she’s gonna get out and live it again.”
Mackenzie Shirilla ‘in it for fame’
Her former lover admitted that she initially thought a book deal would be a good idea, before coming to the realization Shirilla was just in it for fame.
“I thought, okay, if this girl really is innocent, it would be an amazing story to get out, write a book and blow up off of that and even honor your boyfriend and his friend,” Topping said.
“Then if she did blow up, okay, she could set the families off with her, what is it? Publishing money.”
She added: “Now I’m thinking, okay, she was just trying to grab a piece of fame.
“I don’t think she would do any of that for the families if she got out. I think she would throw up a big middle finger to them like, I got away with it.”
