Experts Urge People To Draw Round Beds With Chalk Crayons Immediately
Households across the UK are being given an unusual but urgent piece of advice: grab some chalk and draw a line around your bed as soon as possible.
The recommendation comes as experts warn that a common household problem is reaching its seasonal peak, with millions of homes set to be affected over the coming weeks.
According to pest control specialists, this simple trick could provide an effective barrier against unwanted nighttime visitors.
The method has gained significant traction in recent years, with major retailers reporting unexpected surges in chalk sales during autumn months.

Chloe Danskin, Head of Marketing at stationery chain Ryman, previously told the Irish Mirror: “It’s both unexpected and amazing to see chalk being embraced as an effective, and affordable, repellent.
“Our range of chalk products, from traditional white to colorful alternatives, is flying off the shelves as homeowners take proactive measures to keep their homes protected.”
So what exactly are you keeping out of your bedroom with these chalk barriers? Spiders.
The science behind the chalk barrier is surprisingly straightforward.
Certain creatures detect their environment through their feet, essentially ‘tasting’ the surfaces they walk across. When they encounter substances with strong or unpleasant flavours, they instinctively avoid crossing them.
Chalk presents exactly this kind of disagreeable barrier, creating an invisible force field that these unwelcome guests are reluctant to breach.

If chalk doesn’t appeal to you, or you want to take extra protection, experts recommend several other household solutions.
Strong scents can be particularly effective. Pest UK explains that natural aromas work wonders as deterrents.
Citrus-based options include lemon, lime, and orange oils or peels rubbed around entry points.
Essential oils such as lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, and peppermint can also be spritzed around windowsills and doorways, per MSN.
Regular cleaning remains crucial. Vacuuming frequently, especially in hard-to-reach corners and behind furniture, removes hiding spots and makes your home less inviting.
Sealing gaps around windows and doors prevents entry in the first place, blocking access points before they can be exploited.
There are also certain paint colors you should avoid to keep spiders at bay.

As September rolls into October, spider season reaches its peak.
The fading summer warmth sends male spiders on the hunt for mates, driving them out of their hidden corners in walls, cellars, and dark cupboards and into full view across our homes.
If you spot one scuttling across the floor, it’s almost certainly a male searching for a female, who remains stationary in her chosen spot.
While millions of people harbour a fear of these eight-legged visitors, it’s worth remembering that spiders are actually beneficial houseguests.
They prey on flies, moths, silverfish, and other common insects, helping keep your home clean and free from other pests, the Yorkshire Examiner explains.
Still, if you’d rather not share your bedroom with them, now you know what to do: grab some chalk and start drawing.
