A political commentator is calling on Vice President JD Vance to invoke a never-used-before law to remove Donald Trump as president.

The businessman turned politician is widely considered to be the most divisive and controversial president in US history, particularly after the recent revelations of the Epstein files and his decisions relating to the ongoing war in Iran.

Trump made history back in 2019, when he became the first US president to be impeached after he was accused of seeking foreign help to win the 2020 election.

A whistleblower claimed Trump called Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, urging him to investigate Joe Biden, who was a front runner to win the election at the time.

Most recently, the 79-year-old has divided people all over the world over his decision to launch co-ordinated strikes with Israel against Iran, prompting calls for his removal as president of the United States.

JD Vance urged to try and remove Donald Trump as president

Now, a Conservative commentator has urged JD Vance to use a law which has never been used before, in a bid to try and remove Trump as president.

Scott McConnell co-founded the American Conservative, but despite his right-wing beliefs, he has criticised the president over the ongoing Middle East conflict.

“My advice to Vance: Announce your support of the 25th Amendment transition,” he wrote on X.

“Say Chris Murphy or similar will be veep. Announce you will NOT be a candidate in 2028. Use your position, access to the media to explain why this is necessary. Don’t resign.”

He went on to say Chris Murphy would be a good choice for vice president because he’s anti-war, but ‘smart and not super woke.’

In a follow up post, the commentator suggested Trump had acted on ‘BS intelligence’ from Israel president Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Trump, ignoring his own intelligence agencies, lapped it up,” McConnell wrote.

“Now because things didn’t work out like the BS intelligence claimed, wants to commit genocide in our name. OK.”

What is the 25th Amendment and how does it work

In his message, McConnell called on Vance to use the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution, which explains what happens if a president dies, resigns, is removed or becomes unable to do the job.

The law was previously used when John F Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, however it has never been used to remove a president from his post.

Section 4 of the Amendment refers to when a president is unable to work but won’t step down, and relies on the vice president and the majority of the cabinet to say the president is unable to carry out the job.

If JD Vance decided to invoke the Amendment, with the support of the cabinet, he would write a declaration to Congress, before immediately becoming acting president.

However, Trump would have the right to challenge the decision and Congress would then need to take a vote.

Iran wants to deal with JD Vance directly

The advice comes after Iran suggested it would like to deal directly with Vance, who is himself a veteran of the Iraq war, having served in the US Marine Corps, including six months in Iraq in 2005.

The VP is known to be a skeptic of foreign military interventions following his own experience in a war zone, making him a key potential negotiator for bringing about the end of the conflict between the US and Iran.

While Iran has made this preference known, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has pointed out it will ultimately be Trump who decides to put forward as negotiator.

“President Trump and President Trump alone decides who negotiates on his behalf,” she told the Post.

“As the president stated today, Vice President Vance, Secretary Rubio, Special Envoy Witkoff and Mr Kushner will all be involved.”

US ‘negotiating with itself’ according to Iran

Trump recently said there were ‘strong’ ongoing talks regarding a ceasefire with Iran, however officials in the Middle East have already dismissed these claims.

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said there has been ‘no direct or indirect negotiations’ between the US and Iran, according to Iranian state media IRNA.

Trump previously claimed he was ‘talking to the right people’ in Iran and that they ‘want to make a deal so badly,’ however a spokesperson said the US was ‘negotiating with itself.’
