A list of the safest US states to be in if World War 3 were to break out has been revealed.

With the US and Israel launching a blanket bombing campaign against Iran over the past week, fears have arisen that a third world war could be upon us.

Several US service members have already lost their lives in the Middle East, with Russia and China also rumored to be aiding Iranian efforts in the conflict.

Operation epic fury triggers fear of full-scale war

While Donald Trump and his administration may seem confident that the US and Israel’s bombing campaign will be over in a matter of weeks, there are not many people who share this optimism.

Several nations in the Middle East have already been drawn into the conflict with Iran. Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have all been targeted, with the US and Israel operating bases out of these countries.

The early attacks on Iran took the life of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to Sky News reports, Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, and Qom have been hit by US and Israeli missiles in Iran.

Epic Fury has drawn criticism from politicians around the world, with both Democrats and Republicans in the US chastising the Trump administration’s decision to attack Iran, highlighting the loss of lives of US servicemen as well as the huge economic impact it could have domestically.

Gasoline prices have surged across America in the wake of the attacks on Iran. The average price of gas across the US has risen $0.48 a gallon over the past week alone, according to data from AAA. Barrels of oil briefly hovered above $100 each, reaching as high as $120, before settling at $95.

The war in Iran has severely disrupted the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Iran has threatened to blockade the Strait, withholding their oil supply, which Trump has since threatened them not to do, citing further missile attacks.

Could nuclear bases be targeted by Iran?

While the US President has boasted that Iran’s military has been depleted and the war is basically won, there is still a substantial threat to US life from Iran.

Trump told CBS News: ”I think the war is very complete, pretty much.”

The President added: “We’ve wiped every single force in Iran out, very completely. They have no leadership. It’s all been blown up.”

Yet experts still maintain that major US nuclear bases could be targeted by Iran. America has several nuclear silos located around the United States, primarily in Montana, North Dakota, and Nebraska, according to Nuclear Forces. Wyoming and Colorado also have some within their state lines.

America’s nuclear arsenal is believed to be somewhere in the region of 2,000 warheads, one of the largest in the world. If Iran were to target the silos where these weapons are developed, it could be catastrophic for life in the respective states.

Should an attack take place on one of these silos, the states in which they are housed could be exposed to radiation levels of 1 Gy to 84 Gy (Gy = Grays, the unit of ionizing radiation dose in the International System of Units), with a level of just 8 Gy being fatal.

Newsweek said of its calculations when putting together the report on the safest and most at risk states in America: “This is based on the average radiation exposure risk calculated for each latitude and longitude point, using a scale measuring the estimated cumulative radiation dose after four days in grays (Gy).”

Where are the safest states in America in case of nuclear fallout?

Newsweek shared a list of the safest states to be located in the event of an attack on one of America’s nuclear silos. These states, Newsweek believes, would only be exposed to radiation levels of 0.001 Gy to 0.5 Gy.

So it’s good news if you happen to be in any of: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.

However, for those of you who find yourselves in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, and North Dakota, well, it’s probably just best to stop reading here, frankly.

“A concerted nuclear attack on the existing US silo fields – in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana and North Dakota – would annihilate all life in the surrounding regions and contaminate fertile agricultural land for years.”

It has been reported that Iran has selected Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the now deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to be the country’s new Supreme Leader.

The BBC describes Mojtaba as ‘a hardliner close to the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).’

Iran chooses its Supreme Leaders via an 88-member clerical body known as the Assembly of Experts. The appointment of Mojtaba, while celebrated by some in the country, has not brought much of hope of change from the previous regime.
