The White House Doctor has issued a statement after announcing that Donald Trump would be taken to hospital.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that Trump would visit the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, describing it as the President’s ‘yearly checkup.’

However, questions arose as Trump had undergone what was described as his ‘annual physical examination’ just six months earlier in April.

Concerns about Trump’s health had intensified over the summer after photographs emerged showing visible bruising on his hands and apparent swelling around his ankles.

In July, the White House confirmed that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition affecting blood flow in the leg veins that is particularly common in people over 70.

The President himself addressed the upcoming medical visit during an October 9 bilateral meeting with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb in the Oval Office. “I’m meeting with the troops, and I’m also going to do a sort of semi-annual physical, which I do,” Trump stated.

“I think I’m in great shape, but I’ll let you know. I’ve had no difficulty thus far. Is there wood around here? Knock on wood. No difficulty. Physically, I feel very good. Mentally, I feel very good.”

Following Trump’s examination at Walter Reed, White House physician Sean Barbabella issued a comprehensive medical statement that contained some surprising findings.

According to Barbabella’s memo, the President’s cardiac age – determined through advanced testing – is ‘approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age,’ Yahoo reports.

The findings came after Trump completed a full suite of medical assessments, including advanced imaging, blood work, and preventive screenings.

“President Trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health,” Barbabella confirmed. “He continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction. President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance.”

The visit also included Trump’s annual flu shot and an updated Covid-19 booster as he prepares for an upcoming trip to the Middle East following his involvement in brokering a ceasefire deal in Gaza.

Barbabella noted: “These evaluations were performed in coordination with leading academic and medical consultants to ensure optimal cardiovascular health and continued wellness.”

Trump’s lab results were described as ‘exceptional,’ with ‘stable metabolic, hematologic, and cardiac parameters,’ according to the Navy captain’s memo addressed to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

This wasn’t the first time Trump’s doctors have painted a glowing picture of his physical condition.

Back in April, Barbabella had similarly reported that Trump was ‘fully fit’ to serve as commander in chief, citing both ‘excellent cognitive and physical health’ and ‘frequent victories in golf events.’

At the time, Trump himself drew comparisons with former President Joe Biden, telling reporters he had aced a cognitive exam. Barbabella backed this up, stating that Trump scored a ‘normal’ 30 out of 30 on the test.

Despite the upbeat medical assessments, the President has not been entirely free of health issues.

Earlier this year, rumors that the President had died were circulating on social media after he hadn’t been seen publicly for several days.

Responding to the question while speaking to reporters, Trump said: “I didn’t hear that one. That’s pretty serious stuff.” The President had also posted “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE” on social media amid the unfounded rumors.

When Trump retook office in January 2025, he became the oldest person in history to do so, meaning that when his term ends, he will be the oldest President in U.S. history.

Despite his age, Barbabella emphasized that the President’s health remains solid: “Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance.”
