Why Dad Who Shot His Daughter In Trump Row Won’t Face Charges
The dad who shot his daughter following an argument about President Donald Trump will not face criminal prosecution.
Police swarmed Kris Harrison’s Texas home on January 10, after officers received a phone call claiming that he had shot his daughter, Lucy Harrison, in broad daylight.
Lucy, 23, had traveled from the UK to spend time with her father in the US.
Accompanied by her boyfriend, Sam Littler, she had planned a seasonal visit that was meant to end with their flight back home later that day.
Instead, the trip ended in tragedy just hours before they were due to head to the airport.
Who was Lucy Harrison?
Originally from Warrington, Cheshire, Lucy worked as a fashion buyer for Boohoo and was described by those closest to her as vibrant and thoughtful.
During the inquest into her death, her mother, Jane Coates, said: “She was a real force for life.
“She cared. She was passionate about things. She loved to have debates about things that meant a lot to her.”

The inquest heard how her father, Harrison, had moved to the US when Lucy was still a child, and had previously been in rehab for alcohol addiction.
According to evidence presented at the inquest, he admitted to having relapsed on the day his daughter was killed.
What was the argument?
Tensions reportedly escalated in the hours leading up to the shooting.
Littler told the inquest that Lucy and her father became involved in a heated disagreement over politics, including views related to President Donald Trump.
Lucy had allegedly asked her father during the Trump row: “How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I’d been s**ually assaulted?”
Her boyfriend alleged Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him, so it would not upset him that much.
He later added that she was left distressed by the comment.

According to Littler’s account, events then unfolded rapidly.
Roughly 30 minutes before they were scheduled to leave for the airport, Lucy was taken by the hand and led into her father’s bedroom.
Moments later, Littler heard what he described as a loud gunshot.
“I remember running into the room and Lucy was lying on the floor near the entrance to the bathroom and Kris was just screaming, just sort of nonsense,” the devastated boyfriend recalled.
Rushing toward the chaos, Littler found Lucy lying on the floor near the bathroom entrance.
Kris Harrison recalls the shooting
The dad claimed to be emotional about his daughter leaving the US, and could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger when the gunshot was fired.
“As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang,” he recalled. “I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell.”
Medical reports state that Lucy was shot in the chest from ‘mid-range’ by another person.

Despite Kris’ version of events, senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish said: “To shoot her through the chest whilst she was standing would have required him to have been pointing the gun at his daughter, without checking for bullets, and pulling the trigger.
“I find these actions to be reckless. With a bullet through her heart her prognosis was poor in any event.”
The dad said he ‘fully accepts’ the consequences of his actions, as he added: “There isn’t a day I don’t feel the weight of that loss, a weight I will carry for the rest of my life.”
Why will the dad not face charges?
Despite the UK inquest finding that Lucy was unlawfully killed on the grounds of gross negligence manslaughter, a grand jury in the US decided not to proceed with a conviction.
They determined that there was not enough evidence to charge anyone in connection with her death.
But a legal expert has said that there is more to the case than the surface level view.
Speaking to the New York Post, defense lawyer Lindsay Richards said: “I honestly believe that the fact that he was not indicted and has not had any consequences for doing this is symptomatic of a very conservative county in Texas.”
She also proposed another outcome: “I cannot believe that criminal negligence was not considered.
“I’ve seen cases in Texas where individuals that have been indicted for manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide for running traffic lights.”
Lucy’s mom, Coates, said her daughter was ‘failed’ by Texan gun laws.
