In his 2020 Netflix special, Pete Davidson: Alive From New York, the comedian responded to Grande’s comments from a Vogue interview, in which she described their short-lived relationship as a ‘distraction’.

The ‘Thank U, Next’ singer told the publication: “And then I met Pete, and it was an amazing distraction.

“It was frivolous and fun and insane and highly unrealistic, and I loved him, and I didn’t know him.

“I’m like an infant when it comes to real life and this old soul, been-around-the-block-a-million-times artist.”

She added: “I still don’t trust myself with the life stuff.”

In response to her comments, Davidson – who has a staggering net worth – said to his audience: “I wasn’t gonna do jokes about this, but then my buddy told me, he’s like, ‘Yo, I’ve recently heard that Ariana said she had no idea who you were. And she just dated you as a distraction’.

“So now I just think it’s like fair game and you’re like, ‘Pete, this isn’t fair. You’re like you’re airing out dirty laundry. How could you do that? Why did she say this stuff, to her friends, in the competence of her own home?’.

“No, she said it on the cover of Vogue magazine.

“Can you imagine if I did that? My career will be over tomorrow.”

He continued: “If I spray painted myself brown and hopped on the cover of Vogue magazine, and just started s***ting on my ex.”

“But you imagine if I did that s*** if I was just like, ‘Yeah, just f****ed her because I was bored, and then Fortnite came out.

“That would be insane. Again, these are jokes. I don’t want any smoke.

“OK, my biggest fear is I’m gonna get a shot in the back of their head by like a nine-year-old with a ponytail.”

During Davidson and Grande’s short romance, the pop star’s ex-partner and friend Mac Miller died due to an accidental overdose.

The comedian had previously admitted that he knew their relationship was over after the rapper passed away, but he understood what she was going through.

Davidson also recalled telling Grande that he would be there for her and be supportive.

He continued: “I pretty much knew it was over after that.

“That was really horrible. I can’t imagine what that s*** is like. That s*** is just terrible.

“All I do know is that she really loved the s*** out of him and she wasn’t putting on a show or anything.

“That was f***** up.”
