An incident involving a pregnant mum being ‘forced’ to clean up food that had been spilt by her child has sparked a wave of fury online.

It’s quite common to feel stressed when boarding a plane.

From making sure you have packed everything you need, to getting to the airport on time, the anxiety around what should be a simple trip can often lead to all-time high stress levels.

Usually, the members of staff involved are there to help and support you – so the last thing you need is to get in an altercation with an attendant.

Unfortunately, one pregnant mother experienced exactly this.

The incident has gone viral on social media and it involved the wife of the baseball star Anthony Bass – who is a pitcher and has played for MLB teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs.

In January 2017, Bass married Sydney Rae James, sister of country singer Jessie James Decker, and the pair welcomed their first child, daughter Brooklyn, the following September, as per Us Weekly.

Three years later, they adopted a baby girl named Blaire and brought her home in October 2020.

The couple then welcomed their son, Sonny Edward, in July 2023.

Back in April 2023, when Sydney was 22 weeks pregnant with Sonny, she was involved in an incident on an American Airlines flight.

Bass raged on social media over his wife’s treatment.

In a now-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter, he said: “The flight attendant @united just made my 22-week pregnant wife travelling with a 5-year-old and 2-year-old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!”

Sydney’s sister, Jessie James Decker, supported her by posting an Instagram story in which she informed followers that her sister had been ‘humiliated’ on her trip.

“As you know, she is five months pregnant, high risk, and also travelling alone with her two small children,” she wrote, via Us Weekly.

“Blaire accidentally spilt some popcorn in the aisle on the plane and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop.

“My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched. Way to go united.”

Decker added more fuel to the fire when she uploaded another Instagram story of her and her sister – with the caption: “Grabbed my sis and the popcorn hazard.

“Yes, that’s what the flight attendant told my sister, that popcorn in the aisle is a safety hazard.”

Despite Bass and Decker’s outrage over how Sydney was treated, many people online were in support of the flight attendant.

One person wrote: “I am amazed she had to be told. She should have done it without being asked. It is common courtesy to clean up what you can if your child makes a mess.”

Someone else adds: “It would have been the right thing to pick it up yourselves the cabin staff have enough to do without cleaning up after kids or adults.”

Bass did respond to some of the comments and defended his point – stating that he was concerned for the well-being of his wife.

However, after everything calmed down, Bass took to social media again to confirm that the matter has been dealt with.

“Thank you everyone for the support, United Airlines is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally,” the baseball star wrote.
