Ron Cephas Jones’ cause of death has been confirmed.

The This Is Us star, 66, played William Hill in the hit drama series, the father of Sterling K. Brown’s character Randall Pearson.

He was a recurring character throughout the NBC show six-season run, often appearing in flashbacks.

Sadly, news broke on August 19 that the Luke Cage star passed away.

A representative for Cephas Jones confirmed the news to Us Weekly, revealing that he died from heart-related issues.

In a statement provided to the outlet, it reads: “Beloved and award-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones has passed away at the age of 66 due to a long-standing pulmonary issue.

“Throughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness and heart were felt by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him.”

The Mr. Robot actor had been suffering from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – which he has been open about.

According to the NHS, this is a term used for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties.

This includes emphysema, damage to the air sacs in the lungs, and chronic bronchitis – long-term inflammation of the airways.

Cephas Jones underwent a double lung transplant due to the condition in 2020.

After the procedure, the actor revealed to the New York Times that he spent nearly two months at the UCLA Medical Center – where he was constantly being put on and off a ventilator.

Following his double lung transplant, he had to learn to breathe, eat and walk again.

The statement continues: “He began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance for his role in Clyde’s on Broadway.

“Ron’s inner beauty and soul was evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award-winning performance on This Is Us.

“He is survived by his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones.”

Cephas Jones began as a theatre actor throughout the 1980s and early 90s, before making a transition onto the small screen.

He had small roles in films and TV series such as He Got Game and Law & Order but later appeared in blockbusters such as Venom and Dolemite Is My Name.

His breakthrough role was in This Is Us, which saw him pick up four Emmy nominations – picking it up two awards for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2018 and 2020.

After his surgery, Cephas Jones appeared in the Broadway play Clyde’s – which saw him receive a Tony nomination for his performance.
