The Boys new spinoff series has debuted with an impressive 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The hugely popular Amazon Prime show is an adaptation of the comics with the same name.

It is set in a world where superheroes – described as supes – are celebrities who are adored by millions of people around the world.

But behind the scenes, some of them are the worst – or to quote a character from the show, ‘diabolical’ – people on earth who literally get away with murder due to high-profile statuses.

This is where a group of people called The Boys come in to try and expose these heroes for who they really are.

A spinoff series – set in the same universe as The Boys – is set to drop and judging by the early reviews, it could be one of the best shows of the year.

Gen V follows a group of high school ‘supes’ attending the prestigious Godolkin University School of Crimefighting whose powers are tested as they compete with one another for the top ranking.

If you are familiar with the gore and humour of The Boys, then you can be assured that the spinoff will follow suit.

The cast includes Jaz Sinclair (The Chilling Tales of Sabrina), Patrick Schwarzenegger (The Staircase), and Lizzie Broadway (Ghosted).

It has been confirmed that Jensen Ackles – who plays Soldier Boy in The Boys – will be making an appearance and there are even rumours that some familiar faces will pop up too.

It has also been teased that the events of the show will set up the next season of The Boys, as per Claudia Doumit – who plays Congresswoman Victoria Neuman in the show – so fans of the series will not want to skip Gen V.

The early reviews for the show have dropped and it has scored a hugely impressive 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reporter Nicola Austin has described Gen V as a ‘gripping mystery with a hilarious X-Men/The Hunger Games parallel’.

Adam Blevins, from Agents Of Fandom, posted on X (previously Twitter): “As to be expected, Gen V is top-class superhero storytelling. It’s a fascinating examination of how power and indoctrination burden a younger generation.

“Enough references to feel familiar but not overwhelmed. Every character is unique and wildly compelling. Perfect television!”

Alison Herman said in her review for Variety that the spinoff ‘retains the edge, cynicism and (aptly) adolescent humour’ that made The Boys so successful.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Gen V and have shared their excitement for the show on social media.

“So excited for this one!!” posts one person.

Another viewer says: “I’m genuinely excited to see how they expand this universe. I liked the animated show they did a while back.”
