Flanagan, who also created Midnight Mass, tweeted: “I grew up reading Christopher Pike. His stories were a constant through my teenage years, and this show is based on several of his books.

“It’s an honour to play in his sandbox and to help introduce him to a new generation. THE MIDNIGHT CLUB hits Netflix on 10/7.”

Fans are already expressing their excitement for the show, with one person replying to the video: “Shaking I am literally so excited ahhhh.”

“I’m so excited. This book f***ed me up as a kid in the best way, and I can’t imagine a better person to adapt it. Also loved the little recreation of the book cover!” tweeted a second person.

A fan of Flanagan added: “I’m prepared to experience sleepless nights and heartbreak all over again.”

“Mike Flanagan has yet to disappoint me, I will be seated,” another viewer has expressed.

The story revolves around a group of young adults who meet at a hospice and read chilling stories to each other, however, when one of them dies, strange occurrences start to happen.

The synopsis for the show reads: “At a hospice for terminally ill young adults, eight patients come together every night at midnight to tell each other stories – and make a pact that the next of them to die will give the group a sign from the beyond.”

The project was initially announced back in 2021 by the acclaimed horror director, who had previously directed Doctor Sleep, the prequel to Stephen King’s famous novel The Shining.

In a tweet to reveal that he will be adapting the Pike novel, Flanagan expressed how this was a dream of his.

He said: I’ve been dreaming of this project since I was a teenager, and I cannot wait to embark on yet another adventure with my intrepid partner in crime (and television) Trevor Macy, as well as the fantastic crew we’ve been cultivating. More to come as we get closer to shooting.”

The Midnight Club is set to premiere on Netflix on October 7.
