People are only just realising that you can use AAA batteries instead of AA in many devices.

We’ve all been there. A device that takes AAs dies so you search the cupboards only to find that you’ve only got AAAs in stock.

So it’s either off to the shops or take AAs out of a different device and stick them in the dead one.

But now it appears that there’s a much simpler solution to such a problem.

Particularly in the gaming world, one of the most frustrating things is when your controller dies, leaving you holding a useless piece of plastic.

Scrambling to find spare batteries is often unsuccessful, and many resign themselves to having to go without gaming for the rest of the night.

However, a new hack has come to light on TikTok, offering an alternative solution for those who find themselves without backup batteries.

If you have a controller that takes AA batteries, you can use AAA batteries in their place, but with one condition.

To do so, you will need a sheet of aluminium tin foil, which you can wrap around the AAA batteries.

This increases the length of the battery, allowing it to reach the connector, and when combined with the foil, it acts as a short-term fix until you can get your hands on a fresh pair.

It is important to note that this hack is only a temporary solution and will last only a couple of hours at best, so eventually, you will need to replace the batteries.

However, if you have some spare cash, investing in a rechargeable battery pack could help avoid such a problem in the future.

While many smart TVs have a compatible app that enables you to use your phone as a remote controller, so you don’t have to worry about rushing to the shops.

Commenting on the video, one person writes: “This should be in the Journal of Physics.”

Another adds: “Gamers know about this struggle.”

Someone else shares: “My Xbox controllers used to be stuffed with foil.”
