A dad has revealed the savage note he placed in his daughter’s lunch box, after staff at her school allegedly told her off for eating ‘unhealthy’ food.

What parents should be packing in school lunch boxes has been the subject of much debate in recent years, particularly in the UK after TV chef Jamie Oliver made it his mission to improve the quality of school meals.

While meals provided by schools have become significantly more health conscious, schools and parents are now grappling over who ought to be in control of what children eat when it comes to packed lunches sent in from home.

Many schools have put guidelines in place to determine what can be brought in as a packed lunch, though it does vary a lot depending on the area and school district.

In the United States there is no federal law in place, though some states do have laws to protect around bringing known allergens into schools, such has having a nut-free policy in place.

Many schools have rules banning kids from swapping food items or even from sharing them, due to potential allergies and dietary restrictions.

Most schools also tend to prohibit soda or energy drinks.

UK has much stricter approach to packed lunches

Meanwhile, over in the UK, some schools have put complete bans on sweets and chocolate with many having school staff looking over students’ packed lunches to check they contain a healthy balance of foods.

One parent has grown frustrated with feedback school staff have been giving to his daughter, such as instructing her not to eat ‘unhealthy’ items packed by her parents, or trying to dictate the order in which she eats her food.

Commenting on TikTok, one parent wrote: “My kids’ school actually have ‘healthy eating’ teams who take snacks off the kids. Literally snack police.”

Meanwhile, someone who works in a school setting said a co-worker had made a child vomit by ‘forcing her to eat her whole lunch before her treat’.

They added: “She was full but wanted her treat, so she puked.”

Other parents shared that their children had become overly conscious about what they were eating as a result of their school pushing their healthy eating campaigns.

“The work I had to do to convince my daughter she could eat a KitKat with her lunch of salad and ham wrap, cucumber sticks and a satsuma was unreal,” one commented.

A student added: “My school did this, over policed lunch boxes. I just ended up not eating lunch at all. Junk is better than nothing.”

However, others offered an alternative perspective and suggested the healthy eating schemes are necessary for kids who would otherwise just be sent in with things like chocolate and crisps.

“My parents decided what I got and I’ve spent a lifetime battling obesity due to bad habits formed as a child,” one person wrote.

Dad claps back at school with savage note

Ross Hunt, from Wales in the UK, became so annoyed with one particular staff member trying to dictate how his daughter ate her lunch that he decided to take matters into his own hands.

He also pointed out the hypocrisy of the school offering chocolate cake as a pudding option when encouraging parents not to include chocolate items in lunches brought from home.

Revealing that the staff member’s comments were ‘irritating’ and had put daughter Isabelle off taking her own lunch in with her, Hunt devised a plan to get them off her back.

Hunt made a sticker, which he strategically placed on the inside of Isabelle’s lunch box, which said: “‘Welcome to Isabelle’s lunch box! We are aware of the contents of this box and are happy for Isabelle to eat whatever she wants.”

While people on TikTok were impressed with his efforts, he did later reveal that staff appeared to ignore the label, as Isabelle was still told she wasn’t allowed to eat her sweets until she had eaten her carrots.

That day, the primary school child’s lunch had consisted of a sandwich, carrots, rainbow drop sweets, an apple, carrots, crisps, a pear and a chocolate egg.

When she returned home, she had only eaten her sandwich and a few bites of her apple, with her dad revealing she was very hungry by the end of the day.
