A mom decided to withdraw her son from school after receiving a note from one of his teachers criticizing the contents of his lunchbox.

According to government guidance, children should eat at least one portion of fruit and vegetables each day, along with starchy foods such as bread or pasta and dairy products like milk.

As a result, many schools are encouraging families to provide healthier packed lunches and limit snacks that contain high levels of fat, salt, and sugar.

But one mom has pushed back after her three-year-old son was reprimanded over what school staff considered an unhealthy snack.

A lunchbox note sparks outrage

In a TikTok video that has racked up nearly 900,000 views, Megan explained that she packed her son a lunch containing a “granola bar, yoghurt [and] fruit,” along with a small cup of Pringles, which she did not view as unhealthy.

However, his teachers appeared to have a different opinion and sent a message home about the snack.

Written across the Pringles container was the note: “Please help us make healthy choices at school.”

Megan was furious when she saw the comment and accused the school of ‘snack-shaming’ both her and her child.

Megan said: “They snack-shamed my three-year-old, they snack-shamed me, by writing that passive-aggressively.”

A disagreement over food labels

The mom said she reached out to the school directly via email, explaining that she and her husband avoid classifying foods as healthy or unhealthy at home because they do not want their children to develop a negative relationship with food.

According to Megan, the school responded by suggesting that she was the one being passive-aggressive because she continued sending Pringles in her son’s lunchbox.

Megan continued: “She shared that it was passive-aggressive of me to keep sending him Pringles after they did share to send healthy snacks.

“But I didn’t consider Pringles to be this unhealthy snack.”

Tensions reach a breaking point

Megan also claimed that she never received an apology from the school. She was later informed that there was ‘no longer [had] a part-time spot’ available for her son in the school’s summer program.

Feeling frustrated by the situation, she decided to take further action and remove her son from the school altogether.

She explained: “It just felt so uncalled for and disrespectful.

“I walked downstairs, and I checked my son out, and that’s that. We’re done there.”

Social media users rally behind the mom

Since the video gained traction online, many viewers have voiced their support for Megan and criticized the school’s handling of the situation.

One person writes: “As a teacher, I am so sorry. As a mother, I would send a box of Pringles for the class.”

Someone else adds: “I would send Pringles for every single day of class. Granted they aren’t exactly healthy but that is your choice as the parent.”

A third person shares: “One of the many reasons I stopped eating lunch all through school. Kids might bully but a lot of teachers shame kids.”

While another viewer comments: “We’d be having a colourful meeting with the school board. If it isn’t explicitly stated in the paperwork, I’m not entertaining it.”
