Alarming footage showing the outraged response of a DoorDash driver being tipped 25 percent has appeared online and is going viral for all the wrong reasons.

In recent years, many food delivery workers have turned to social media to share frustrations over customers who either leave very small tips or don’t tip at all.

One driver previously sparked outrage after eating a customer’s order because they hadn’t tipped, while another refused to hand over food until a tip was added.

Now, a fresh DoorDash drama is doing the rounds on social media.

Tipping delivery drivers remains a controversial topic

Tipping culture has been a hot topic online for years.

Research from Pew shows that nine out of ten adults dining at sit-down restaurants say they always or often tip. Most people also reported leaving 15 percent or less for an average meal.

For many customers, the level of service plays a major role. Around three-quarters of adults said service quality heavily influences whether they tip and how much they leave.

Experts speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal stressed that food delivery drivers should be tipped in much the same way as restaurant servers, recommending customers leave between 15 and 20 percent.

DoorDash introduced a warning for customers who leave no tip

To address complaints surrounding non-tipping customers, DoorDash has rolled out new measures within the app.

If a customer enters a $0 tip, a pop-up notification appears before checkout.

The message states: “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered – are you sure you want to continue?”

The alert also explains that drivers, known as Dashers, can decide which deliveries they want to accept, meaning orders without tips could take longer to arrive because they are less desirable.

A DoorDash spokesperson told CBS the feature was introduced as a test aimed at improving the experience for both customers and drivers.

Since launching the feature, the company says it has seen a ‘meaningful reduction’ in zero-dollar tips.

Viral TikTok clip sparks heated debate

Even when customers do leave a tip, disputes over the amount can still lead to controversy.

A TikTok video that recently went viral appears to show a DoorDash driver reacting negatively to receiving a 25 percent tip, prompting intense debate in the comments section.

Some viewers defended the driver’s frustration.

“I don’t blame him,” one person wrote, while another commented: “No, I agree. It’s expensive to drive there and implies a lack of regard for someone who depends on their vehicle.”

However, many others felt the driver’s behavior crossed a line.

“I’m wondering if you let his employer know what he said to you. That boy needs some manners and humility,” one viewer commented.

Another added: “I hope you took the tip back. He didn’t have to accept the order. All he did was pick up food.”

DoorDash responds after driver’s comment goes viral

The video shows a customer ordering a $20 pizza and leaving the driver a $5 tip.

At first, the interaction between the two appeared friendly and polite, but things quickly shifted after the delivery was completed.

While looking toward the customer’s home, the Dasher allegedly remarked: “I just want to say, it’s a pretty nice house for a $5 tip.”

Caught off guard by the comment, the customer sarcastically responded: “You’re welcome.”

That exchange then prompted the driver to reportedly shout: “F*** you.”

NBC News later reported that DoorDash confirmed the driver involved had been removed from the platform following the incident. The company also contacted the customer directly.

The spokesperson stated: “Respectfully asking for a tip is acceptable, but abusing or harassing someone is never acceptable.

“Our rules exist to help ensure everyone who uses our platform, Dashers, customers, merchants, have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“We expect everyone to treat others with respect, and we will enforce our rules fairly and consistently.”
