A woman has sparked a heated online debate after admitting she doesn’t wash her pajamas after every use, and not everyone is on board with her approach.

It’s no secret that everyone has a slightly different approach when it comes to hygiene matters like changing your bedding or washing your pajamas, but as it turns out, people have pretty strong opinions on the latter.

Allison Delperdang went viral on TikTok after posing a simple question to fellow adults about their bedtime routine. What started as a casual query quickly turned into a discussion that divided thousands of people.

So, how often should you really be washing your pajamas? The answer may surprise you.

A simple question sparks a viral debate

Delperdang shared on TikTok that she typically wears the same pajamas for several nights before tossing them in the wash.

Her video quickly gained traction, racking up more than a million views as viewers flooded the comments section with their opinions.

While plenty of people admitted they follow the same routine, others were shocked by the revelation.

“Nope, fresh pair every night,” comments one person.

Another adds: “No because I am wearing them 8+ hours, they just don’t feel clean.”

“Fresh set every night over here… isn’t that what we’re supposed to be doing?” a third questions.

Many people say rewearing pajamas is completely normal

Despite some strong reactions, a large number of viewers rushed to reassure Delperdang that wearing pajamas more than once is perfectly acceptable.

One TikToker says: “I wear everything until it’s dirty or stinky!”

In agreement, a second viewer comments: “Reuse, unless sweaty, dirty, drop food or something.”

“I would never even think to change out of my pyjamas every night,” muses somebody else.

For many people, changing sleepwear every day simply isn’t part of their routine, especially if the clothing still feels clean.

Environmental concerns enter the conversation

As the discussion continued, some commenters pointed out that washing pajamas after every wear could lead to unnecessary laundry loads.

Several people argued that reusing sleepwear is not only practical but also better for the environment.

“Saving the environment and your clothes! If it’s not dirty/smelly then why wash it? I wear mine for a week in winter!” pens one person.

A second says: “Why wash something if it isn’t actually dirty/smelly? It’s so wasteful in my opinion.”

In the viral clip, Delperdang showcased her bedtime outfit, a onesie, while explaining why she was curious about other people’s habits.

“I need to know if people wear pyjamas, like, multiple nights in a row.

“I’ve worn these, like, three nights in a row. So I need to know if, like, as adults, we’re still doing that, or should I be literally making dirty clothes every single night.”

Experts reveal how often pajamas should actually be washed

While social media users remain divided, laundry professionals appear to agree on one key factor: sweat.

According to experts, how frequently you wash your pajamas largely depends on how much you perspire while wearing them and how closely they sit against your skin.

Gwen Whiting, co-founder of The Laundress (via Real Simple), explains: “When deciding how often to wash your pyjamas, consider how close in contact they have been with your skin and how much you’ve perspired while wearing them.”

Jennifer Varney, brand manager at Molly Maid, offers similar advice.

“Unless you spill a midnight snack on them, sweat heavily, or wear them all day long, pyjamas can usually be worn a few nights in a row before they need to be washed.”

So while some people prefer a fresh set every evening, experts suggest that wearing pajamas for multiple nights is generally fine, as long as they’re still clean, comfortable, and free from sweat or stains.
